Taking Care of Your iPhone’s Battery

iPhones are highly coveted devices throughout the world. These smartphones offer superb user experience and are loaded with a host of features. You can expect an iPhone to last you for 2 to 3 years. However, your phone’s performance will not remain the same throughout its lifespan. Your phone’s components will undergo degradation. This is especially true for your phone’s battery. After a year of use, an average phone’s battery can lose 15-20% of its efficiency. This means that your battery times will suffer as your phone ages.

Fortunately, a dying battery is not a big deal nowadays. This is because you can have your battery replaced quite easily. There are loads of third-party repair labs out there. And if you’re a DIY kind of guy, you can even lookup a repair phone guide online and replace your battery by yourself. We would not recommend the latter option though. iPhones are notoriously hard to open devices, especially the latest models with their glass back panels.

The first step to replacing your phone’s battery is to figure out what is wrong with it. A faulty or dying battery can be identified quite easily if your iPhone is running on the latest version of iOS. You can simply go to your settings and find an option to check your battery health. If the battery health indicator shows that your battery health has gone below 85% then you should replace your battery. You should keep in mind that a dying battery should be replaced quickly. Otherwise, your motherboard could become damaged from not getting proper power. And a damaged motherboard is a lot harder to repair.

Diagnosing a Bad Battery

Just because your phone’s battery drains out quickly does not necessarily mean that your battery is faulty. Sometimes, the problem can be software related as well. There is also a chance that your phone’s motherboard is acting up and causing battery problems. If you feel unsure about exactly what is going on in your phone, you should have it checked by a professional. Some repair labs offer diagnostic services that can come in handy. They can help you identify what is wrong with your device. Knowing exactly what is wrong with your device makes repairs more successful.

Having Your Battery Replaced

The battery is one of the easiest to replace components in a smartphone. Regardless of your iPhone’s model, you can have the battery swapped out in less than an hour. A technician will open your device, disconnect the battery from the phone and pull it out. Then, the replacement battery is set into place and your phone is reassembled.

Some people like the idea of trying to replace their batteries by themselves. This is not a good idea since you may not have the right tools on hand. Also, the internals of a smartphone is quite delicate. The slightest mistake can lead to your phone becoming more damaged.

Once you have had your battery replaced, your phone will feel as good as new. But you should not stop at this point. You should make an effort to ensure that your new battery lasts for as long as possible.

Taking Care of Your Battery

A phone’s battery is bound to lose its efficiency over time. However, certain factors can accelerate the degradation of your battery. This is why you should make a habit out of taking care of your phone’s battery. There are a handful of things that you can do to ensure that your battery performs well for as long as possible:

Make sure that you only use charging cables that are MFI certified. Using an uncertified cable can lead to your battery receiving unsteady power. This can gradually damage the battery.

Make a habit to keep on checking your phone while it is charging. As soon as your phone reaches 100%, you should take out its charging cable immediately. Overcharging your phone’s battery can damage it as well.

At least once a week, allow your phone to completely run out of battery and switch off. This prevents static build-up and keeps your battery healthy.

Once your phone reaches its 2-year mark, you should replace its battery with a new one. This is because most lithium-ion batteries have an effective lifespan of 2 years.

Taking steps to take care of your battery can be a good habit. It ensures that your phone does not begin acting up prematurely. It also keeps your phone safe from any damage that could be sustained from having a faulty battery. If you ever feel like your phone’s battery is causing trouble, you should head over to a trusted third-party repair lab. They will be able to help you set your phone straight. And they will not charge a lot either.
