CJ 4DPLEX has announced that it will launch its latest professional theater concept at CES 2020, marking the first time the company will exhibit at the show. It’s usual for theatrical exhibition suppliers to announce their wares at pro cinema shows like CinemaCon on CineEurope, so this is an interesting development. The company is known for a variety of ‘4D’-type experiences for movie theaters as we continue to see the lines blur between a conventional cinema auditorium and something you might be more likely to see at a theme park.
3D and 4D cinemas are currently dominating the movie industry as moviegoers now prefer to immerse themselves in the films that they are watching.
Now, a new trend in cinemas is coming with the upcoming launch of a new theater concept by cinema technology company CJ 4DPLEX. It follows the company’s launch of 4DX in 2009 and ScreenX in 2014.
4DX made it possible for the audience to enjoy movies with motion-based seating and various signature effects that are optimized by editors. Since its launch, more than 700 movies have been screened in 4DX, with 723 theaters now in operation across 65 countries.
Meanwhile, ScreenX allowed viewers to enjoy a 270-degree viewing experience by expanding the scene onto the theaters’ sidewalls to offer a panoramic view of a movie without having to use VR glasses. ScreenX is now present in 289 cinema screens across 30 countries.
CJ 4DPLEX did not disclose further details about its new technology other than saying that it will be “the next generation of an immersive, premium movie theater experience.”
“Our company is dedicated to pioneering the cinematic industry to adapt to the rapidly evolving technology. We are confident that our latest immersive cinema technologies will deliver an enhanced cinema experience for existing movie-goers and attract young generations to the cinemas,” CJ 4DPLEX CEO JongRyul Kim said in a statement.
To witness CJ 4DPLEX’s next-gen theater concept, head on to booth #20918 during the CES 2020 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 7-10, 2020.
