TOP box makers Roku have cooked up their own set of smart TVs to take on the likes of Samsung and Sony. Built with telly-makers Hisense, the 4K sets go on sale on Black Friday next week starting at a competitive £329.
In total, four sets will hit UK shelves on November 29, featuring 43in, 50in, 55in and 65in screen sizes. It runs off of Roku’s smart TV operating system, giving you access to 5,000 channels as well as all your favourite streaming apps. That list includes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and more.
“Starting next week, Hisense Roku TV models will be available in the UK,” Hisense and Roku said in a statement.
Details about the models
Private listening lets you switch the sound from your TV to your smartphone at the click of a button. It means you can listen to your telly through headphones if the kids have gone to bed and you need to keep the noise down. Each of the tellies boasts 4K, HDR and HDR 10 capabilities, as well as WiFi connectivity and three HDMI slots. You can control them with the Roku app on your smartphone instead of your remote if that’s your thing. The 43in model will cost around £329. The massive 65in set will come in at about £649. They’re only on sale at Argos, to begin with, with ambitions to sell at other retailers in future. Expect some cut-price offers early doors as they’re launching on Black Friday. US firm Rokku is known for making set-top streaming boxes that you can plug into your telly.
Arun Bhatoye, Senior Marketing Manager at Hisense, said: “We are incredibly proud to launch the first Roku TV models in the UK. These new 4K TVs offer stellar picture quality, endless entertainment and an affordable price. We are now just days away from the UK’s first Roku TV models to hit the stands; it’s a very exciting time.”
Bart Bomers, VP EMEA at Roku, added: “We are thrilled to launch Roku TV in Europe, starting with the UK. Roku TV models have been incredibly popular in the U.S. for years. Roku TV models simply offer a fantastic smart TV experience: are simple to use, packed with entertainment and deliver exceptional value.”
Roku TV models can be controlled with a simple and intuitive remote control or through the free Roku Mobile App for iOS and Android devices. The mobile app also enables consumers to cast photos and videos to their Roku TV, use voice search and connect headphones for private listening.
