Audi’s latest concept, the e-Tron Scooter, has the functionality and style for the last mile. It’s so convenient that you can ride it with one free hand with the flexibility of looking around, giving hand signals.
Audi with its new e-scooter concept is in pursuit of revolutionizing the future. Given the contemporary trend of portable and comfortable transport combined with the advent of electric motors, Audi is responding to the multi-modal mobility trend. The Audi e-Tron scooter is light that it can be easily transported in the trunk of your car or the bus or train, weighing only 12 kilograms (26 pounds) or if preferred can be pulled like a trolley along with you on the streets. The product is specifically designed to give it a sporty look attracting sporty riders. The one thing that makes it stand out is the handling. It is so convenient to handle with one hand with the flexibility to have a 260 degrees view around you while making signals.
The production and sale of the product are to be expected in 2020.
What it does best
“With the Audi e-Tron Scooter, we appeal to customers who are on the move in cities, sustainably and multi-modally – and for whom style and functionality are important,” says Thorsten Schrader, project manager for micro-mobility at Audi. The e-Tron can be controlled by the feet by shifting the weight. The handle does not do as more than making turns. The rest is the work of the skateboard. The axles are designed in a wave that they give way for extremely tight curves. “Of course, the e-Tron Scooter also moves straight ahead. But the feeling of flow only comes when you start carving on asphalt – and that is surprisingly easy with our new concept.”
The breakdown of Audi e-Tron Scooter
All the major components such as the battery, display, and electronics are in the steering handle that is responsible for stability. The battery health is displayed on the screen as well. Just as a simple motorbike, Audi has equipped the e-Tron with a twist grip for acceleration. The range of 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) is achieved through recuperation when the e-scooter brakes, i.e. it recovers kinetic energy. The hydraulic foot brake provides additional safety.
The e-Tron scooter is to be available for 2000 euros by 2020 for private customers. Audi is targetting the modern urban population for sales. Moreover, it could be made available for customers who buy the Audi e-tron models. It will have the option to charge the e-scooter through a socket in the trunk. This way users can easily go back and forth from the parking destination to their desired destination, that too at the speed of 20 km/h (12.5 mpg).
The shining parts: Lights
Audi has equipped the e-scooter with the required led lights as well as a dedicated headlight, brake light, rear lights. More so, daytime lights add to the beauty of the design and look of the model. It has a Bluetooth interface that has amazing security features as well as the accessibility to control certain features. The designing team is working on material such as wood and carbon and the colors are grey and black.
