Humax Eye IP Camera – Simple, easy, secure

As the nights get longer and the days colder, it is often tempting to hold back from checking around you. In times like these, it is a good idea to rely on security cameras to make sure things are as they are supposed to be. Generally known for their television solutions, Humax are now delving into the security camera world. The Humax Eye IP camera has been built in partnership with Y-cam. Offering 720p recording, 7 days of free cloud storage and day/night vision, this is an entry level security camera that should fulfil most needs.

Humax Eye IP Camera – features

  • Records in 720p
  • Offers night vision
  • Built in motion detection
  • Apps for Android/iOS allow you to view/setup
  • Location based recording disables camera when you are in the vicinity
  • 7 days of free cloud storage
  • Ability to download videos to device for permanent storage
  • 3m cable to allow for easy placement
  • 100 degree viewing angle

Look and feel

The camera is basically the Y-cam Evo with a Humax badge. However, the finish is different. It is effectively a 2 by 2 inch square with a camera in the middle. The back has a micro USB port for charging.

The camera can easily be attached to a wall mount or placed on a table, depending on your application of choice.

Setup and app

The device works with the Y-cam app, which gives away the Y-cam partnership. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Humax have focused on delivering the product instead of changing things around in the app.

You download the app and register your details. Look for the camera, connect to it and you are good to go.

From there you can use the app to view or setup recordings. The app is straightforward and intuitive to use. It allows you to view recordings, set up motion sensitivity, geofencing and similar. You can add more cameras if needed too.

Viewing via FVP-5000T or H3 Espresso

One perk that this camera allows over the competition is the ability to see it via other Humax devices. This means that you can simply use your PVR or multi-room box to connect to this camera and see what is happening. In one blink of an eye, you suddenly have a complete security system, all running over a wireless network.

For anybody who has ever used an old fashioned security system will know how time consuming that can be. This simplifies the process a lot.

Camera performance and quality

At 720p, the video is pretty decent. You can easily make out faces, both at day and night. The image at night is not as clear, but that is pretty common with all these cameras. You have a slight fish eye lens affect, which is also common to all these cameras.

Motion detection works pretty well. You can adjust sensitivity, so that it only triggers as and when you want it. A leaf rustling can be ignored while a person walking can be recorded. Geofencing means you can also turn off recording when you return home.

The best feature is the free 7 day cloud storage that this packs in. You can go back and view all your videos as needed. If you want something permanently, you just download it directly to your device.
