The O2 celebrates its 10th birthday this week and it’s been a busy decade. During that time some of the world’s biggest names have played there. So, it seems fitting that a special series of shows to mark the occasion are planned, including performances from alt-J, Celine Dion, Ed Sheeran and Jamiroquai, whose event is postponed until December due to injury. To make this even more special, O2 are transforming the venue into a giant birthday party to thank fans for the support.
At each show there will be a marching band playing renditions of the top tracks of the artists who are performing. Fans will then be given the chance to have their name displayed in lights on a giant screen in Peninsula Square at the entrance. There will be a blue carpet rolled out with step and repeat boards to give them a special superstar welcome.
That’s not all though. After a star walkway, fans will find The O2 Birthday gift box which is a giant 6m x 6m installation. Here they’ll take part in a live-streamed game show hosted by Vernon Key where they can win VIP passes to future shows. Fans will press a buzzer inside the gift box to reveal a mystery prize and using their knowledge of the O2 they can supercharge their prize. Those who can’t participate in person can stream the gameshow via Facebook Live and users interact by deciding their prize with Facebook reactions before they submit their answers to a trivia round.
On days when there is no show, visitors to The O2 can still try their luck at winning a prize from the gift box and O2 customers can take part 48 minutes early.
O2 are also teaming up with Snap Inc to bring a Spectacles Snapbot to the venue on a mystery show day. The O2 will give fans Snapchat Spectacles that will provide footage to be used in the first ever bespoke Snap Ad. This Snap Ad will feature exclusive content from the arena and behind the scenes. There will be Geofilters on show days and a national Geofilter on 22nd June to encourage sharing.
At the venue, O2 customers will be sent geo-targeted SMS and MMS before and after the show with WiFi triggered messages to offer exclusive discounts and upgrades. O2 will also give their customers priority queuing and lounge access using their Priority app. The good news for top influencers is that they will be given the chance to win birthday gifts and money can’t buy experiences.
