I recently looked at the HyperJuice 100W and 70W GaN USB-C Travel Chargers. Not only do they meet the need for frequent travellers, but also cover those who just want to plug something under their work desk and conveniently forget.
Key Features
- Multiple ports, with 3 or 2 USB-C and one USB-A, allowing you to charge multiple devices.
- Capable of fast charging.
- High efficiency and low heat thanks to GaN technology
- Comes with plugs for universal use in a neatly small package
- Only 340g (100W) or 220g for the 70W version
- 8.4 x 8.5 x 3.2 cm (100W) or 7.2 x 7.2 x 3.2 cm (70W)
- Verified by various safety features and certifications
Device compatibility
They will work with anything that will take a USB C or USB A charger, which means pretty much all laptops and mobile phones and similar devices are covered.
Performance
There are a few metrics I normally rate a charger by:
- Ease of use, i.e. how easy is it to plug in, and how easy is it to plug your device in
- Size and weight
- Heat generated
- Sound generated
Ease of use
This comes with multiple plugs that can be connected and disconnected safely from this device, which makes it compatible around the world. There is also a C8 adaptor, allowing you to plug in a C8 cable, but no cable is provided, to keep the packaging compact.
The four ports are in line on the back, but far apart enough that they are easy to access.
Connectors go in and out easily, and there is the perfect amount of friction on them.
Also included is a handy power light.
Size and Weight
The 100W charger is the same size as a 60W charger from Apple, and much lighter. Not much more to say!
The 70W is even lighter!
Heat
Another factor that is important, especially for something driving 100W through it, is how hot it gets. I was happy to see that thanks to GaN, there wasn’t much heat produced by this device.
Sound
Sound? What do I mean by sound?
Well, some chargers will produce a high pitched noise. It may not be audible to everyone, but it is often the case, especially if you go for a cheaper one. Once again, I am happy to report that these chargers are pretty silent.
More information
More information on both the devices can be found on the Targus website.
At the time of writing, the 100W cost £90 while the 70W cost £60, and both can be bought from their website.
Verdict
Overall, I cannot find anything to fault these. They work with everything that will take a USB charger, and are light and compact.
