Apple has successfully conducted its all online Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2020). Given the current pandemic that has grasped the world, Apple took a brilliant approach to showcase what it has in stores for the software departments of its products. OS for all products ranging from macOS Big Sur to iOS14, iPad)S 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 were all talked about in the event which was shared live on www.apple.com.
macOS Big Sur
macOS Big Sur was probably the highlight update of the keynote. Safari has been updated which was already the fasted desktop browser of the world. It now brings even better and faster performance with new features all while protecting user privacy. Users now have more control over how they want the start page to feel like by customizing it with a background image and sections like their Reading List and iCloud Tabs, and further, personalize their experience with improved support for extensions. They can also download incredible Safari Extensions through the Mac App Store which is easy to navigate and allows you to discover an array of apps.
The ability provided to developers for extending the iPad apps to the Mac through Mac Catalyst in the macOS Catalina last year has also been extended to macOS Big Sur which automatically inherits the new look. Moroever, it also gives developers powerful new APIs and total control over the look and behavior of their apps.
iOS 14
iOS 14 has now widgets. It also has an App Library which automatically organizes all the downloaded and pre-installed apps into one simple and easy to navigate view. It is also intelligent enough to surface the apps that may be helpful at the moment.
App Clips, designed to be discovered the moment it is needed, load a small part of an app experience within seconds to complete a specific task, such as renting a scooter, purchasing a coffee, or filling a parking meter.
You can now also keep up with lively group chats in Messages through mentions and inline replies all thanks to the new feature that allows you to pin conversations. The Map also now has new cycling directions.
iPadOS 14
Now you can write anything with the Apple Pencil and it will automatically be converted into the typed text if written in any text field with the new feature Scribbled. Moreover, users can also make a search from anywhere on the iPad without having to leave the app, making it fast and extremely convenient.
watchOS 7
The Apple Watch now starts a 20 seconds timer every time you wash your hands alarming you to keep washing for the required time. Sleep tracking allows for a healthier and improved sleep pattern for better health. Users can now also customize and share watch faces.
tvOS 14
Apple TV users can now access HomeKit-enabled video cameras and accessories by using Siri or Control Centre and receive doorbell notifications on the big screen with live feeds showing who is there
tvOS 14 now also has extended its support for many multi-user capabilities that include Apple Arcade and other games allowing all people in the house to resume their games instantly from where they left off. Through Control Center, players can easily switch between users, their game progress, Game Center achievements, leaderboards, and friends.
