Most new experiences, especially the ones that rely on the senses, are marketed with the phrase “…like never before!”. Now, this is exactly where the latest YouTube sensation, 8D Tunes, are completely different! Instead of promising a completely unique moment, these freshly re-compiled musical favorites take you back to your most favorite concert experiences. Some people say it is like experiencing a 3-Dimensional (3D) movie for the very first time.
Where to Go
All you have to do is log on to YouTube.com on your favorite electronic device. Type in “8D Tunes” or “8D Songs” into the search bar and start browsing.
Here are a few of my favorite 8D tunes:
Tools Required: You will need a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop that is connected to the internet.
Types of Audio Available: A wide yet random assortment of songs in English as well as other languages.
How Does It Work
A few curious sound techies took on the challenge of recreating a multidimensional musical experience, but without being dependent on special equipment. The term ‘8D’ or 8 dimensional describes the effect of being enveloped in sound at varying intensities. In reality, there are only 3 planes, so the listener is only experiencing 3D sound via the headphones. The fact that the core sound is rapidly changing its direction lends to the ‘8D’ effect.
Ambisonic Audio is a slightly more technical term which describes this type of sound engineering. This format has been around since the 1970s. Ambisonic audio technology has gradually developed as creative individuals found new uses for an increasingly immersive audio format. Ambisonic audio files, without being dependent on any sort of speaker, can now deliver the kind of multi-channel spatial audio tracks needed for a Virtual Reality experience. With more and more consumers seeking out totally immersive content, like video games and therapeutic experiences, there will probably be many exciting innovations in the 360 content realm in the next couple of years.
