That’s one helluva poster, isn’t it.
Mahira Khan, who made her debut in films in a Shoaib Mansoor production, “Bol“, stars in another film by Mansoor. Shoaib Mansoor is known for his intense subject matters in films and touching upon gritty social issues.
The film’s first teaser was released a few days ago and it looked violent and powerful.
The teaser shows Mahira Khan entering a bathroom and punching the living daylights out of a man struggling in a bathtub. The rap song that plays in the background says, “Power di game hai sari, power di game!” (It’s all a game of power) and the main character walks away from the bathtub leaving someone almost lifeless in it.
What could it be about? Is it about revenge? Is it about honour? Because if you look closer, the teaser poster has little words like ‘izzat’ and ‘abru’ and ‘asmat’ all of which lead on to mean and define honour and respect. Could it be a revenge thriller? Could it be that this character takes the revenge of a crime against her, a crime that could possibly be sexual in nature? It could be very well so since crimes of sexual violence against women are on the rise and reporting these crimes is essential to bringing victims justice.
Verna’s soundtrack also released and it is the polar opposite of the teaser. It stars Haroon Shahid and Naimal Khawar with Mahira Khan, singing to the vocal talents of Haroon Shahid himself and Zeb Bangash.
Verna releases on 17th November, 2017. Do the dates have significance? Everything does, apparently, when it is Shoaib Mansoor.
