What is it?
In a world where almost every product seems to have a million others that do exactly the same, creativity and novelty go a long way. Power banks are no exception, and generally they tend to be a fairly boring affair. Not with the soap shaped power bank from STK. Oh no, not only does it come in a clever shape, it also features connectors for the three types of devices that are mostly used, the 30 pin iDevice, the lightning connector, and the micro USB connector, which caters for almost everything else that I am aware of.
Look and feel
The device looks like a soap, and more or less fits like a soap in your hand. This bodes well, as it does feel nice in the palm of your hand, but also carries well in bags or even pockets. Lack of sharp corners does make it easy to carry in pockets, but being soap based does add a bit of bulk.
The top of the case is covered in a rubber cover, and removing that you get to see the three connectors, an on/off rocker switch, and 5 LEDs that tell you the power level available.
Put the cover back on, and you can see those LEDs from the 5 holes.
The cover is designed such that you can take any of your required cables out and plug them into your required device.
A blue or green flashing LED on the top corner shows that the device is working. The LED also functions as a button, but we’ll talk about it in operation. It flashes green when you are using 0.5A and blue when you’re using 1.0 A.
Pretty straight forward if you ask me. On/OFF slider is all you really need to do, and plug in your device with the appropriate cable.
The top corner LED/button has the following operations:
- Short press to find out the battery level remaining. This is visible both with the cover on and off
- Long press to adjust between 0.5A and 1.0A
So, 1.0A is the maximum?
But what about things that want 2.1A?
They will charge, unless they’re programmed not to accept anything less than 2.1A. In that case, there isn’t much you can do.
How many charges can I get?
For most devices, you will get 2 to 3.

It is available from various retailers, such as Rymans:
While generally £29.99, it is currently going for £14.99!
At the price of £14.99, you can’t really beat it. But even at the full price, the practicality and the fact that it comes with built in connectors puts this above many other products on the market.
