It is no secret that every time you travel, you often have to face the terror of huge bills when you come back, or the option to just turn your phone off. A survey by the European Commission has only confirmed this, and found that 47% of people do not use mobile internet while travelling. We don’t blame them. We use similar policies, and not so fondly remember the time a bit of ‘WiFi‘ issue meant that we had to pay about £20 for using data in Canada.
Luckily, there is a solution to this problem, and it is being brought by Voiamo. They offer a couple of data only services that not only give you great deals in your own country, they cost you ‘exactly the same’ when you are abroad. Yeah, you read that right. There is no extra charge for using data when you’re outside your country. The service works in 40 countries, and they have partnered with services such as Three in the UK to cover all of Europe.
Two kinds of services are offered: MobiData for the occasional traveller, while the Globalgig WiFi Hotspot caters to the need of the frequent traveller.
We covered MobiData in detail back in December. The service provides packages of 1GB, 5GB or 10GB mobile broadband packages, from £4.94/mo, on 1 or 3 month rolling contracts. The coverage works outside the UK in 39 other countries, and more information can be found by visiting their website: www.mobi-data.co.uk.
Globalgig, on the other hand, provides a more complete solution, and caters to the needs of the more frequent travellers, such as salesmen. The solution provides a WiFi Hotspot device, and once again, it removes the need to pay for expensive international roaming charges.
Once again, this is provided on cheap rates, and being a WiFi hotspot, anything can be connected. With services starting from £21/mo, this is a great solution for business solutions as well as the likes of teenagers on their gap year!
The Globalgig device can be purchased from uk.globalgig.com.
The coverage for both includes the following countries:
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Vatican City & the UK.
USA, including Hawaii and Alaska
Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
Of course, there is the news that at least European roaming charges are to be abolished in summer this year, but whether that applies to data rates as of yet or not, we do not know. We shall see! Till then, this is definitely the solution to go for!
