A guide to 3D printing

For most people, the extent of our printing activity is a humble inkjet printer that sits firmly on the corner of our desks. Handy for printing family snaps, school projects and important documents, the inkjet printer may be simple, but it is vital to carrying out general day-to-day tasks.

In order to ensure that these tasks can be carried out successfully, you’ll need to do some regular printer maintenance. Cleaning checks will help to rectify any problems. Ensuring you have the correct ink cartridges installed can prevent any issues from arising. In addition, you also need an efficient and reliable printer. Take a look at printing experts, United Carlton; they offer a great selection of printers without the hefty price tag.

However, the field of printing stretches way further than our home office. Although by no means a new invention, 3D printing has been hitting the headlines recently as a result of some major new developments. Quicker, cheaper and more intelligent equipment means that 3D printing could revolutionise the way we live.

Take this article recently posted in the Daily Mail, for example. As the article rep

orts, British surgeons are expected to reconstruct a road accident victim’s face using 3D printing.

Only one side of the biker’s face was affected during the incident, so surgeons have scanned the unaffected side to create a detailed 3D image. Using 3D printing, this will then be transformed into a physical template that will be used to create exact titanium implants to help rebuild the man’s face. This remarkable procedure is expected to correct around 70-80 percent of the man’s facial injuries.

3D printing does not just benefit the field of medicine, though. It has drastically improved the manufacturing process too. Previously, if a company wanted to create a new product, the process of manufacturing a prototype was often long and laborious. From sourcing parts to actually putting the product together, it could take weeks to complete.

However, with 3D printing, a prototype can be created from a digital image in a matter of hours. This means that companies can get their products onto the market quicker.

With this in mind, it is no wonder that so many companies are choosing to include 3D printing in their manufacturing process. Rolls Royce are the latest company to embrace the technology, stating that they could start using them in the production of their passenger jet engines, as the Daily Mail reports.

3D printing has the potential to change our day-to-day lives too. Not so long ago, 3Doodler announced the release of a 3D pen. This clever device can be used to simply and easily transform your drawings into a 3D object. Retailing at just $99, this pen is a must-have for all creative types. The best thing about 3D printing is that we haven’t yet reached the limit of its possibilities. There are so many more opportunities for it to be used effectively, so it could affect our lives a lot more in the future.
