Review: iolo System Mechanic

I have been trying out System mechanic over the last couple of days to try and find the answer to two very important questions: first, do you reallytotal care need PC optimisation software, and second, is System Mechanic the one for the job?  Sometimes despite my best efforts, I still end up resorting to the tried and trusted method of a fresh windows install, so I was in a little doubt a program that could remove the need to do this by keeping my PC running would be worth paying for.

main pageSystem Mechanic installs quickly and easily. Then you hit the button marked PC Totalcare and off it goes. A quick scan checks your system, and there is a handy bar gauge (red for bad, green for good) of your computer’s health and security.  Once you have checked over the results, you can choose to fix everything at once, or work through it one at a time. After you’re done with this, there is a large array of other options including one that looks for programs that have duplicated functions. I also found the start-up program de-selector very helpful, as it shows you what others have done, which gives you a feeling of confidence about your actions.

There is a nice widget so you can keep an eye on things and tasks can be scheduled to run when you are not widgetthere.  The real question is “does it do the job?”

To this to this I am glad to say, yes! After I ran System Mechanic I noticed a marked improvement in boot up speed and the amount of programs I was able to run before my PC slowed down. It wasn’t perfect however, a lag I’ve noticed lately on chrome was still there but its always nice to see an improvement after running such programs.

So in conclusion if you are looking for a easy way to keep your PC running smoothly until you actually want to upgrade the operating system then this program is for you, I cant guarantee it will fix everything but its the best program of its type I’ve seen.
