Back at the end of May we told you that Cooler Master had announced a new iPad case called the Yen Folio. Well they kindly sent us one to review and we have been testing it out for the last few weeks.
The Yen Folio can be folded in four different ways that allow you to prop up your iPad in a number of different positions and angles. In addition to the two positions that Apple’s own smartcover allows for (high angle for media viewing and low angle for typing), the Yen Folio allows for additional standing options that gives the user a much broader range of viewing angles. Of course, as would be expected, the Yen Folio has magnets positioned in the front cover that wake the iPad when the cover is opened, and force it to sleep again when it is closed.
In addition to the extra viewing angles, the case provides your beloved tablet a fairly decent level of protection from knocks, scuffs and scrapes etc, although I wouldn’t trust it to protect against drops from any significant height. With its carbon textured finish the Yen Folio is an attractive case which comes in a selection of 5 different colours.
All-in-all the Yen Folio is a good case. I am generally not a fan of cases, usually preferring to just enjoy the design of an unprotected iPad as it was originally intended, but due to the high quality of design finish and the versatility provided by the different cover folding options, I have actually quite enjoyed using this cover.
If you are looking for a new case/cover for your iPad, then this is definitely one that you should be seriously considering.
