The new Suzuki Jimny charmed everyone with its adorable face immediately after its launch. But how is it on the road? What does it look like? How is it to get behind its wheel? This 2021 Suzuki Jimny review will discuss everything you need to know about this small but sturdy car.

Let’s have a closer look at the Suzuki Jimny, exploring its design and dimensions, engine and capabilities and other features, making it worthwhile on the road!

History

It has been more than fifty years since Jimny was born. The first Jimny model arrived on the market in 1970 with a first-generation based on the On360, designed by the Japanese HopeStar. However, Suzuki bought its manufacturing rights a few years later.

After that, the Samurai, another version of this car, made its arrival and served as inspiration for the current and 4th version of this small Asian adventurer, Suzuki Jimny. It was launched as a four-seater VP version in 2018, then sold for under $18,000. Jimny witnessed an enthusiastic response from the press and the public, but due to the ecological penalty, it was withdrawn from the market in 2020.

Here, the 2021 Suzuki Jimny is returned as a two-seater LCV version that exempted itself from the ecotax, being the only version with a 102 hp gasoline engine.

Design and Dimensions of Suzuki Jimny 2021

Suzuki Jimny is indeed an SUV attached to its origins more than ever in its 40 years of history and is now in its fourth stage of life. It is called a spartan all-rounder, simple, robust and extremely capable off-road. However, to be honest, its appeal is in the design. It is a car that you turn to see that steals glances. It is like a Tonka toy car, but in real size, that everyone falls in love with.

Suzuki knows the potential of this SUV in terms of appearance, and it has been its main success factor. Few cars today generate such a level of engagement as this Jimny does. It is beautiful with a classic “retro” design, admired by all.

In dimension, it is really small, having a length, width and height of 3.6 m, 1.6 m and 1.7 m, respectively. Regarding the wheelbase, it is 2.2 m, and its weight is 1,095 kg. Its small dimensions are great for roaming around. It is like a real mouse in urban traffic. Although the torque or power isn’t enough to spare, its lightweight allows it to be nimble at traffic lights.

Engine and Capabilities of Suzuki Jimny 2021

The construction structure of the Jimny is not a monocoque. It is a chassis; a frame made up of stringers and cross members. It is also known as body on frame. It’s the same architecture that pickups like some SUVs (Suburban, Wrangler, for example) use. This archaic type of manufacture offers many advantages of rigidity and durability.

The Jimny offers a 1.5-litre four-cylinder developing some 102 horsepower for a maximum torque of 135 Nm. The transmissions available are either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. As a good all-terrain car, it offers 4×4 traction with a reducer and has Hill Descent. To face any type of terrain, it has an attack angle of 37°, a central angle of 28° and a departure angle of 49°.

Fuel Performance of 202 Suzuki Jimny

It is a car designed for the off-road vehicle, but also an ideal car for the city. Few users will put it under 4×4 conditions, and it will be an everyday car.

With an automatic transmission, it offers a real performance of 11 km/l. It is a relatively high consumption. If it is with a manual box, you are sure to obtain better numbers. However, it is perfectly understood by understanding its capabilities out of the way.

Interior and Equipment of Suzuki Jimny 2021

The Jimny’s habitability is for two passengers “officially,” but it has the versatility of a second row with two independently folding seats to carry three to four passengers as desired. As the two rear seats are enabled, the cargo space is practically nil.

There is nothing in the back, maybe an umbrella, a sweater or a jacket. Otherwise, if the seats are folded, you have a large trunk space with a capacity of 113 litres. In the rear seats, two adult passengers can travel well and with enough space.

In terms of entertainment, Jimny offers the standard that you find in other models in the range, which is just as functional as it is user-friendly. It is a 7″ touch screen system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It also has a radio and a Bluetooth connection. However, it does not have a volume knob. You can control the volume with a button or through the switch on the steering wheel. However, the interior is not that sleek since the dashboard has many buttons and looks a little old-fashioned. But at the same time, larger screens feel good.

Speaking of equipment, it brings the bare minimum, insurance such as electric lifts, automatic climate, multifunction leather-covered steering wheel, USB input and a 12-volt outlet. It stands out that the main headlights are LED with automatic ignition.

The Suzuki Jimny has decided to take a completely different path by remaining true to itself. This cabin has no high-end materials since it is mainly made of hard plastics, giving the whole a very “roots” character. It will not please everyone, but that is not the goal.

Suzuki Jimny 2021: Safety

The Jimny arrived with good protection for occupants offering six airbags, ABS brakes (with brake assistant), and stability control. For securing child car seats, it comes with an ISOFIX system. In tests, it obtained a rating of three stars.

Conclusion!

Some claim it as not a rational choice, and anyone who buys Jimny buys it just because they like its design, are curious about its looks and want everyone to look at them because it steals hundreds of glances per kilometre.

However, considering the features discussed above, it is worth a purchase, having the virtues of superior 4×4 features. So, if you are a fan of off-road adventures, you will be very satisfied and happy with this small SUV.
