Apple today announced the all-new iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max at the Special Event held at Apple Park. Apple very proudly introduced the next generation of the Pro iPhones, boasting of incredible connectivity speeds thanks to 5G, new display technology and innovation on the rear with the cameras.
The Display and Design
The new display on both Pro models is the edge to edge Super Retina XDR display and interestingly, these are the largest displays Apple has ever put on the iPhone. The regular iPhone 12 Pro now measures 6.1-inches and the larger Pro Max now measures 6.7 inches. The displays are also protected with the new ceramic shield that makes it 4 times stronger than previous displays used on iPhones.
The design has been changed with sharper borders and shinner frames. The back glass now features a shiny finish instead of a matte. The edges and corners are more squared than round, bringing back the iPhone 5 feels.
The new iPhones come packed with the latest and fastest chip ever produced by Apple, the A14 Bionic. It is built on the latest 5nm process technology and is faster and more energy-efficient than ever before. You can imagine how amazing it would be to game on the new iPhones backed by the 6 core CPU and 4 Core GPU on the new chip.
Apple was all about the cameras during the launch of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Together with the new image signal processor (ISP), A14 Bionic drives increased image quality and enables powerful computational photography capabilities not possible with traditional cameras. Apple has also introduced Apple ProRAW which will be joining the iPhones later this year.
The new tech brings together a combination of Apple’s multi-frame image processing and computational photography with the versatility of a RAW format. As a result, users can have full control over colour, detail and dynamic range natively on iPhone or with other professional photo editing apps. Night mode has been extended to all four cameras on both models, including the selfie camera.
The Pro Max has more improvements housed in the Tri camera setup on the back. The new ƒ/1.6 aperture Wide camera boasts a 47 per cent larger sensor with 1.7μm pixels for a massive 87 per cent improvement in low-light conditions. It also includes the expansive Ultra-Wide camera and a 65 mm focal length Telephoto camera for increased flexibility with closer shots and tighter crops. Combined, this system offers a 5x optical zoom range.
The new iPhone Pro and Pro Max also feature MagSafe. Now you can make the most out of wireless charging without having to worry about not placing the phone correctly. Both models feature IP68 dust and water resistance. The greater display sizes on both models do not come at any compromise of compactness as the form factors are nearly identical to last year’s Pro models.
Both models from the Pro series will be available in four incredible stainless steel finishes including graphite, silver, gold, and pacific blue. Pre-orders for iPhone 12 Pro begin Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23. iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available for pre-order Friday, November 6, and in stores beginning Friday, November 13.
