Samsung Electronics today revealed the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE), the newest member of the Galaxy S20 family. Galaxy S20 FE is a premium flagship smartphone that includes innovations Galaxy fans told us they love most, made available at an accessible price point, starting at £599 in a range of stunning colours.
“We are constantly speaking to our customers and know there is demand for a smartphone that takes stunning photos and can perform all day, at a competitive price point”, said Conor Pierce, Corporate Vice President, Samsung UK, and Ireland. “Galaxy S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family, designed to bring flagship features to a wider audience. Equipped with 5G, we have future-proofed the device so our customers can enjoy the incredible innovation we know this technology will bring to our everyday lives.”
The Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) is finally here, and Samsung is going hard on pricing. The S20 FE is effectively this year’s Galaxy Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite as there are two editions. Samsung has created the standard S20 FE that has an Exynos 990 and an S20 FE 5G, which includes a Snapdragon 865.
There’s also IP68 waterproofing, while the front is covered with Gorilla Glass 5. The rear of the phone is one area where a compromise is made, switching to plastic – or glasstic – as Samsung did with Note 20. We can’t see that being a huge problem for people given that this is a more affordable handset.
There are slightly thicker bezels around the display – which is flat – compared to the Galaxy S20, but overall, it’s still a similar-looking device, with the bulky camera unit on the rear.
For cameras, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE brings a triple rear camera setup that houses a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens as well as supports optical image stabilisation (OIS) and dual-phase detection autofocus. There’s also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree field of view (FoV) and an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. At the front, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera sensor at the front, with an f/2.0 lens on top.
Powering the device we have a 4,500mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging and wireless charging. In terms of connectivity, the phone gets Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Additionally, the phone comes with stereo speakers optimised by AKG.
