Alexa Learns to Whisper as parents reveal the lengths they would go to for a full night’s sleep

Giving up their phones just for a day and canceling all the social plans are among the few sacrifices new parents willingly make. They do so in order to get a good night’s sleep. This has been found out by a survey which has been revealed by Amazon.

The result of the study claims that young families wake up three times per night on average. This study was carried out on 2000 British parents. As a result of waking up around three times per night, they suffer a lack of sleep. This causes rifts between the loved ones (42 percent) and four-fifths (80 percent) claiming they would do ‘anything’ for a good night’s sleep.

In fact, over two thirds (73 percent) claim that sleep is the thing they value most after having children and four in five (80 percent) declare that sleep deprivation affects them more than hangovers.

Crying children make up 28 percent and snoring partners make up 39 percent of this disturbing slumber. However, around half of the parents, 47 percent, claim that it is the loud voices that are of the utmost annoyance waking them throughout the night. These loud noises can come from within their own homes or outside or even next doors.

Amazon is looking forward to helping the users go about their evening without having to wake up others in the house. They plan on doing so with the launch of the Whisper Mode feature on Alexa. This new feature means that Alexa will respond to being whispered to by whispering back.

Once enabled, the Whisper Mode will receive and give out commands in whispers making minimal noise. This makes sure that nobody is disturbed in their sleep by any unwanted noises. You can do tasks like setting up an alarm or check what time your alarm is set. All of this is done without disturbing anyone around you.

With sleep deprivation, such an issue, over a third (38 percent) of parents would sacrifice using their phone for 24 hours to sleep through to the morning uninterrupted, whilst a similar number would cancel all social plans (37 percent) and not spend money on clothes for six months (35 percent).

Parents have also named the other top annoyances that wake them up through the night, including their partner’s alarm clocks (16 percent) and phone notifications (16 percent). The survey also revealed the extreme lengths some would go to for a full slumber, stating they’d get into a heated conversation with Piers Morgan (23 percent), listen to Baby Shark on repeat all day (20 percent) and even take a pay cut (9 percent).
