This is a revamped external storage drive and comes in an aluminium case giving it a very premium feel as well as a robust exterior. While it is equipped with USBC for faster transfers, it also is backwards compatible with USB-A as it comes with an extra adapter.
It’s important to note the extra benefits that come with buying a WD hard drive, apart from just great reliability. There is a preinstalled back up software and hardware encryption as well, in which files can be password protected.
First impressions of My Passport Ultra are, the quality metallic case, and portability as the size is smaller than an iPhone! The functionality is great as the drive is very fast and has unmatched transfer speeds, while at the same time the pre-installed software helps with saving the files from being corrupted. The WD Discovery software allows you to set up automatic backups, password protection, import cloud images and documents for Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, etc. WD recommends this drive for Windows 10, 8.1, or 7 (they have a Mac version for Macs, although it is possible to set this drive to use on Macs as well).
The one problem the new USB-C port tends to have is that it claims to be backward compatible, but at times it is not recognized by USB 2.0 at all, so in the case of taking a presentation to a PC with older USB ports, it is important to be careful.
More information on the device can be found on the My Passport Ultra page on the WD website.
It retails from around £58, and can be bought via their website or various online retailers such as Amazon.
