A good microphone is an essential tool in any podcaster’s kit. My usual choice of microphone is rather unconventional, as I use the Sennheiser GSP300, essentially a gaming headset. While we have tried a few, it is always good to explore a new option. AUKEY features a condenser microphone in their range, so we got it over.
The microphone comes with the following features:
- Clear and excellent sound for podcasting, recording vocals, or narrating videos
- Easily adjust microphone input volume with built-in volume control dial
- Desktop microphone tripod saves desk space and enables easy positioning
- 3.5mm cable compatible with most desktops, laptops, smartphones, and audio recording equipment
In the box:
- AUKEY MI-W1 Microphone
- Mini Tripod
- 3.5mm Male to Dual 3.5mm Female Microphone Headphones Splitter
- 3.5mm Microphone Cable
- User Manual, 24 Month Warranty Card
While it is sold as a condenser microphone, nothing about it shows that it is. A condenser microphone is based around a bigger diaphragm acting as a transducer for your voice. If you open the microphone up, you find a smaller coil inside it. Technically it may be a condenser microphone, but it doesn’t compare to your usual microphone in that regard.
Ease of use
In terms of being a microphone, the AUKEY Condenser Microphone comes with a 3.5mm cable that will happily plug into your computer. As most modern computers come with just the one audio port, a splitter port is also available in case you want to plug in headphones or a speaker into your device.
Also included on the microphone is a volume adjusting knob.
The sound quality of this microphone is pretty normal compared to the type of microphone you get on your mobile or PC. There are no bells or whistles, no enhancements to your sound.
This may sound like a bad thing, but there is a lot of advantage to having a microphone that actually comes up to your mouth or sound source. Having a volume adjustment key is quite a good feature too.
Other than that, there isn’t that much to report from this simple plug and play device.
More information as well as buying options for the AUKEY Condenser Microphone can be found on its Amazon page. It retails for only £13.99.
