Back in the day, anything that needed doing was done by hand – or by a rudimentary machine that was supervised by a human being. Since the introduction of both the internet and more sophisticated gadgets, however, things have changed dramatically with complex computer systems now replacing many paid roles.

That said, technology has also opened up a host of other opportunities that were not available a few years ago and with this in mind let’s take a closer look at how recent developments have changed the job market:

  1. You can find a job online

These days, it’s easier than ever to find a job online – be it via a recruiter finding employees for call centres Manchester or through a company directly. With just a few clicks of a button you can find a role that suits your wants and needs but it’s not only job hunters that benefit from this efficient job search tool, recruiters can also improve their outreach and have their job ads seen by far more people than was once possible – helping them to find top candidates.

  1. Computer-based jobs are in demand

Walk into any office and you’ll probably find a significant number of employees tapping away on a computer. Sitting in front of a computer screen all day is what many people have come to expect in this fast-paced, modern world with IT jobs expected to grow 22 per cent by 2020 in the US alone.  With healthcare IT and mobile networks increasing the demand for software developers, support technicians and system analysts, there looks to be no shortage of computer-based work in the coming years, so if you want to be employable, brushing up your computer skills is a good place to start.

  1. Social media jobs now available

Social media has taken the world by storm of late, with many businesses making the most of platforms such as Facebook for business or Twitter to market their companies. While these pages are easy enough to set up, many organisations also need people to manage their social marketing activity and as a result many social roles are now popping up on jobsites – something that would not have been possible just a few years ago.

With improved internet connections and apps such as Skype and FaceTime, it has become easier than ever for people to work remotely, meaning employees can be hired from overseas without ever meeting their employer face-to-face – or be sent to work in a different part of the world and report back to the same headquarters. Of course, with all the benefits of technological improvements come a few negatives – one of which is that many manual jobs have been replaced by computer systems. Technology has undoubtedly changed the job market and will continue to do so in the future, so it’s a good idea to make yourself employable by keeping up with the times and gaining those sought after skills.
