So, that time of year has come round again when everyone starts panicking about buying Christmas presents and sending Christmas cards. For most people, that also means it is time to send round dozens of text messages to friends and family members to check you have their most recent address. Sound familiar?
Well maybe this year you won’t need to thanks to this clever new app that lets you send real gifts using only a mobile phone number. Thankfully, we’re not talking about those virtual ‘gifts’ some people seem to go for – these are real flowers, wine, cosmetics, iPads or even a DJI Inspire Quadcopter RtF (if you’re feeling generous and have a spare £2,500 to spend) that will be delivered direct to the recipient’s door.
So how does it work? It really couldn’t be much simpler. You open the SwiftGift app, choose from one of the thousands of handpicked items, pick someone from your contacts to send it to and write a little personalised message. The lucky recipient then gets a text message with a link, they click through, get the excitement of opening the gift on their smart phone before deciding exactly where it would be most convenient for them to have it delivered.
At present, SwiftGift is only available on iPhone, but the good news is that isn’t going to stop you sending something to your Mum, your Nan or mates that stick to vehemently to Android devices as anyone with a mobile can receive a gift.
SwiftGift claim they are leading a “gifting revolution.” How mainstream it becomes remains to be seen of course, but it is certainly fun to use and you could literally sort all your Christmas shopping in minutes without leaving your chair. Perhaps the more practical use though is on those occasions when you realise it is a friend’s birthday a little too late – now there is no need to apologise, just fire them a quick present from SwiftGift and you can stay firmly in their good books.
SwiftGift is available to download now on iPhone. For more information visit www.swiftgift.me
