What is it?

Cooler Master’s ErgoStand III is a laptop stand that not only packs in a multi-height stand, but also packs in an ultra quiet fan, a USB hub and a cable tide.

We took a look at Cooler Master’s ErgoStand II two years ago. You can read the review by clicking here. Before I go any further, I must mention that till I came across the ErgoStand III, the ErgoStand II has been my laptop’s main stand. It has worked well over the last two years for me, and the only thing I may complain about is the fact that the fan seems to be rather loud at times. The ErgoStand III seems to have addressed that, with the other features they have added.

Feature list

  • Ergonomic Design – Six (6) height settings for comfortable viewing angles.
  • Aluminium Fan Speed Dial – High quality dial adjusts fan speed and (on/off) function.
  • Exclusive Fan Blade Design – Provides better air flow to increase laptop cooling.
  • Ultra Quiet Operation – Able to provide 72 cubic feet per minute of airflow at only 21 dBA
  • Durable Components –  LDB fan with IP6X dustproof rating and over 160,000 hours lifespan.
  • Cable Management and USB Hub – USB hub expands one laptop port into four (with cable management).

Look and feel

This device looks the part and feels premium. This means that it can fit into any environment, with any device. Whether you are running a workstation that needs cooling at work, or you’re running a MacBook in your art studio.

A well designed mesh provides a dust filter for the fan, and the base for your laptop. Adjustable tabs at the bottom allow you to use both computers and tablets on this. The top left corner features an aluminium brushed fan speed dial, which is a great touch over the last iteration. Back then there was an adjustment available, but it was at the back, and rather difficult to do when everything was plugged in.

The bottom allows you to adjust the height, and a cable tidy can be seen on the side. The back also shows off the USB hub, which is what the cable management is designed for.

Performance

The device packs in quite a lot of features, which shows how well thought out this is. The adjustable height and the tabs that allow for tablets are all good touches, but what really stood out for me was the cooling. The new design is focused on providing concentrated air at the bottom, and that targets the area where your microprocessor sits. Generally that is the hottest area of your laptop and that is exactly where the cooling is needed. It isn’t easy to measure of course, but from what I have seen it works well.

The extra feature they have packed in is the ultra quietness of the fan. This is definitely what I have been looking for, and it works rather well for me. It is quieter, and while you know the fan is running, it isn’t the loudest thing in the room, as my last stand was turning out to be. Silence is golden when it comes to work, and boy does it make a difference!
