What is it?
Bluetooth has come a long way since its humble beginnings. The latest offering, version 4.0, features a low energy profile, meaning it uses very little energy. While this may or may not be a feature required on your PC, portables such as laptops and phones do appreciate that, and this is exactly what this dongle offers. A simple plug and play experience to give you Bluetooth 4.0 on your device.
Most laptops, including mine, happily installed this without the need for a driver. However, it does come with a CD, and you can download the latest set of drivers for this device using the Inateck website. The driver need is for audio, and if you don’t need to play audio from your computer, you don’t even need that. I already had it installed on my laptop, which is why I didn’t need it.
Literature tells me that it works on Macs as well, but I haven’t had the chance to try that.
Look and feel
This tiny little dongle is one of those plug and forget devices. Much like a mouse dongle these days, it is tiny, and features a blue flashing LED on it to let you know when the data is being transferred.
Not much to comment about the performance, which is a good thing. The device works and works well. Bluetooth comes with its own limitations, and those were the only limitations offered by this device. It works happily over 10m, and the file transfer rates, which are rated to 3MB/s, were not noticeable to be slow either.
