Jolla, the Finnish smartphone and Sailfish OS developer, have announced the world’s first brand partners for its ‘The Other Half’ concept, and it is none other than our favourite game: Rovio’s Anrgy Birds. The second company to come on board is Makia, with their clothing line.
The Other Half is something we have not seen before the Jolla phone, and since we haven’t seen many of those, it is safe to say that it is a fairly new concept. The idea is that attaching a smart cover to your phone instantly gives it a new personality. For example, you have a work ‘Other half’ which gives you a new look and feel, and focuses on productivity apps. A ‘Home Other Half’ may show you things like shopping, videos, or cooking apps. There may even be one for kids.
“The Other Half offers brands and companies a new fresh and distinctive way to deliver a co-branding experience, by making the Jolla device look, feel and sound like the brand. In addition to branded physical smartphone covers, The Other Half can be customized with various branding and direct sales elements inside the phone, through Jolla’s specific partner space. With The Other Half brands can gain prime visibility not possible with other mobile platforms, but also have an easy and distinctive interaction channel with fans,” comments Sami Pienimäki, Chief Marketing Officer of Jolla Ltd.
Angry Birds characters will soon be made available with ‘The Other Half’ smart cover for Jolla smartphone. It will of course be themed, bringing sounds, ambiances, images, videos and more to Jolla users. It is expected to be available in Q2/2014.

Makia’s Nordic Clothing Line
It isn’t just fun and games for Jolla’s The Other Half, but style and fashion too. The Makia experience gives great possibilities to direct the Makia brand story to fans with the means of storytelling, e.g. music videos and news as well as event feeds, visualizing the product catalogue and addressing special offers.
“With the custom made wallpapers, ringtones and other sounds, direct online store access, photo galleries, product catalogues, and feeds to current news and events, the Makia The Other Half will be an effective marketing and sales tool for our brand, and a sought-after experience for all Makia fans,” says Jarno Luotonen, Creative Director / Marketing, Makia Clothing.

Both ‘The Other Half’ smart covers are being showcased at MWC, February 24-27, at Jolla’s Booth: 1B25.
Both the covers are now in development, and will be available in the first half of this year.
