Wireless charging seems to be a growing trend on Android and Windows Phones, with even low and mid-range models including the capability to charge without needing to plug in a cable. Google’s Nexus devices and Nokia’s phones have been two of the biggest users of the technology, with both of them using the Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) standard. In this article, I’ll recommend 5 Qi wireless chargers that’ll let you take full advantage of this futuristic technology with a compatible phone.
5. Zens Qi Double Wireless Charger
When I picked up my Nexus 5, I was left in a curious position – I still had my Nexus 4, so I had two phones that could be charged wirelessly and only one wireless charger. The answer to my unusual issue was this Zens Qi Double Wireless Charger, which comes with a pair of charging points and enough space to hold two phones side by side. A pair of indicator lights make it easy to ensure your phone is placed correctly, while over-charging protection automatically shuts off the charger once your phone is full. If you have two wireless charging devices, then it makes sense to save a bit of money and get a double wireless charger like this one rather than two singles.
4. Nokia Lumia Wireless Charging Plate
Nokia have done a lot in terms of promoting wireless charging, and not just on the phone side of things – they’ve also produced an award-winning line of Qi wireless chargers like this one. The Wireless Charging Plate comes in yellow, black, white, cyan, red and black, and has a nice rounded design that looks real nice on your desk. And as it supports the Qi standard, you’ll find it works just fine with Android phones as well as Windows Phones.
3. Qi Universal Wireless Charging Plate
If you want to get a wireless charger but you don’t want to pay for a slick looking pad, then this generic Wireless Charging Plate is a good shout. The design is a bit bland – a white or black plate with a brash blue LED – but it is the cheapest available from many retailers, going for between £25 and £30. This is a particularly good choice if you’re looking to embed the charger in a nightstand or table, as you won’t have to look at it!
Not content with producing desktop wireless chargers, Nokia have also gone ahead and produced a wireless charger for your car. The combination of technologies makes a lot of sense, and Nokia have done well to craft an accessory that keeps your phone safely in position while charging it with wireless magic no matter how bumpy the road.
1. Qi Wireless Charging Orb
You may recognise the shape of this wireless charging orb from the official Nexus accessory of the same name, but this is a generic alternative. Google never produced enough of the Orbs to go around, so this stand-in makes a lot of sense. Just like the original, you’ll get a slanted stand and rapid wireless charging – and unlike the original, you’ll be able to get it in your choice of black, white/red, white/green and white/blue colourways. Awesome.
