Review: Philips Sonicare DiamondClean – Black Edition

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Black Charging Glass

What is it?

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Black is the best offering from Philips in terms of their brushes. It gives you 5 modes of cleaning, delivers up to 31000 strokes a minute, and promises to fight plaque and improve gum health in 2 weeks, and whiten your teeth in 1 week!

Look and feel

The brush feels great, and has a great finish, looking good while it waits for you. It is also light to hold, and has an ergonomic grip. A ceramic finish to the power handle and a chrome accent ring happily highlight the neck of the brush. The handle has a matt black finish, and when you press it on, the different brushing modes become illuminated to give you the options.

Charging and portability

Wondering why I have shown the brush in a glass? Well prepare to be amazed. The Sonicare DiamondClean features the latest in induction technology. The brush has a chrome base, and it comes with a plug in glass, and all you need to do to charge this is leave it in the glass. No peg to stand this on, and no need for special alignments.

On the upside, I did find that if you hold it on top of a regular brush charger, e.g. like the one that comes with the regular Sonicare (or even Braun), it does charge. The curved Chrome base does mean that it won’t stand, so it isn’t a practical solution.

The charging magic doesn’t end here.

It also features a portable case which has a mini-USB port. So when you’re on the move, just put it in the case, plug the case into your computer, and it does the rest. The case is also quite well built, and is pretty rugged. You will not be worried about it on a long haul flight.

Definitely the kind of technologies I want to see as a gadget enthusiast. In fact, I want everything to be charged in a glass from now on!

The brush also boasts a three week long battery, so theoretically you should be fine on most travels.

The Brushing Modes

It features the following brushing modes:

  • Clean – The standard mode for a whole mouth clean
  • White – removes surface stains to whiten teeth
  • Polish – brightens and polishes teeth.
  • Gum Care – massages gums
  • Sensitive – extra gentle for sensitive teeth and gums

All you need to do is press the power button to cycle through the modes.

The experience

At the end of the day, it is all about the brushing experience, and this is where this does not disappoint.

Extremely easy to use, as all you need to do is press the power button to turn it on, and then cycle through modes.

Once on, it pulses according to each mode to give you different brushing zones (front, top, bottom, back), and these vary per mode.

As far as the actual brushing goes, the 31000 strokes a minute it gives helps turn your toothpaste into a frothy liquid, and it helps it get everywhere.

The brush itself is powerful, and the pulses help it reach the far corners and the deep bits between your teeth, helping you get a nicer clean.

Definitely a great brush to give your teeth a great treatment.

Buying information

It retails for £250, but you can get it from the likes of Boots and Amazon for only £106 at the moment!

Verdict

An amazing brush, bringing with it a load of exciting charging features and portability. While the regular price may have been a bit steep, at the reduced price it is available now, this is an absolute bargain, and a must have!
