We all know the drill. New Year’s resolutions are made in a moment of delusional optimism and often die by the time February rolls around. But if you’re looking for a proper, non-negotiable goal to shake off the festive flab, myFirst has delivered a timely heads-up on the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run.
This isn’t just another 10K. It’s the nation’s biggest and arguably most charismatic winter run, and the final 7,000 public places are dropping on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024.
The Winter Carnival Hits the Capital
You might scoff at a run in the depths of winter, but the sheer spectacle of this event turns a frosty slog into a genuine highlight of the sporting calendar. Why? Because the organisers, ASO UK, have leaned into the absurdity of it all.
This 10K takes place on a fully closed-road route right through the heart of London. You’ll be sprinting (or more likely, shuffling) past iconic landmarks like Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament, and the National Gallery—which, incidentally, inspired the utterly gorgeous, art-framed finisher medal. You know, the kind of medal that actually looks good on the mantlepiece.
Andrew Smith, CEO of ASO UK, is fully expecting a rush: “The demand for the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run reflects its status as the pinnacle of winter running… We encourage everyone who wants to be part of the excitement to register for Advanced Access to the remaining places to avoid missing out.” Given that 19,000 spots were instantly snapped up earlier this year, he’s probably right.
Polar Bears, Penguins, and a PB (Maybe)
What sets this event apart is the on-course entertainment that makes you forget your lungs are about to freeze. Forget a single person with a tambourine; we’re talking larger-than-life experiences:
- Snow Blast-Off: Because who doesn’t want to start a race by running through a flurry of artificial snow?
- Penguin Party: A motivational boogie zone that science says is mandatory at kilometre five.
- Iconic Polar Bears: Hugs are available at the finish line. Frankly, if that isn’t worth the entry fee, nothing is.
Plus, you’re raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK—a reason to run that certainly outweighs the slight risk of a chilly nose.
Last Word from me…
I have already bagged my spot for the Sunday, 15th February 2026 event. If I can commit to conquering 10 kilometres in the cold, so can you. It’s a great way to put all that gadget-reviewing weight to good use.
If you want to secure one of those last 7,000 places, especially via the early access route, you need to be sharp.

I hope to see you freezing with a smile (and maybe a Polar Bear) at the finish line.
