Counterpoint’s research showed how Nokia smartphones are always at the top of receiving both security updates and Android OS upgrades. The data from the research concluded that 94% of the Nokia smartphone portfolio updated to the latest Android version within a year of new Android release. Based on these results, Nokia has become the fastest brand to reach this level. This week, the Android 10 rollout completes the update of the Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 5.1.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global, said:

“Upgrading the operating system of a phone is an intricate process involving multiple partners and a variety of tests[4]. We are hugely proud of the industry-leading process we have in place for Nokia smartphones and continue to make it a key priority of ours to ensure our customers benefit from the latest Android innovation ahead of the competition in every price point.”

Over a time of 3 years or more, the smartphones by Nokia have collectively been updated 1,000 times. This is an incredible milestone that reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to ensuring its fans are always using the most up-to-date features in the most secure environment.

HMD Global has also been fully transparent with its customers. Keeping up with this tradition, it has released its Android 11-ready portfolio to the latest Android OS. The rollout will initiate in the fourth quarter of 2020 with the newly-available Nokia 8.3 5G and the Nokia 5.3.

Nokia smartphones’ pure Android 11 software is easy to use and gets to what is important, with a streamlined interface and no bloatware:

  • Manage your conversations: Stay in touch with those who matter by managing conversations across multiple messaging apps all in one place on your Nokia smartphone.
  • “Hey Google, show me my day”: Using the dedicated Google Assistant button[6] or just your voice, get a full snapshot of your day, and when you need to focus or unwind, use the Digital Wellbeing tools like Focus mode and Bedtime mode.
  • Permissions auto-reset: Supporting our commitment to delivering secure and reliable mobile experiences, Nokia smartphones on Android 11 will reset the permissions of apps that haven’t been used in a while, allowing only recent apps access to personal data.

Anyone who owns a Nokia smartphone enjoys the secureity, purity and the up to date OS these smartphones bring. They come with up to three years of monthly security updates and two years of OS updates so customers can get more out of their phones for longer; recently launched smartphones, even in the entry-level segment such as the Nokia 3.4 and 2.4, are already primed for the next step in Android innovations – Android 12.
