Review: Kami Wire-Free Outdoor Camera

The premium smart home security brand, Kami, has yet another incredibly convenient offering to keep your houses secure. The Kami Wire-Free Outdoor Camera has advanced motion detection and HD results, all of this while being 100% wire-free! The wireless design of the camera enables it to work without any external base stations or hubs. All you have to do is put the rechargeable batteries in the camera and you will be good to use it.

security

Kami has designed this wire-free camera to offer consumers the ultimate wireless security camera experience. And it has rightfully done so with its versatility to be used in various scenarios. You can literally take the camera along wherever you go or place it anywhere within your home.

Versatile And Portable

The versatility and portability of the Kami Wire-Free Outdoor Camera is what makes it stand out from the rest. It has an extremely easy installation process and works at a variety of angles. The IP65 certification enables it to fight against dust and harsh weather. It also has a pretty wide operating temperature range from -10º to 50°C/14°F to 122°F. As a result, you never have to worry about any hindrances in your security feed no matter what the environment. The convenience is taken to the next level with the rechargeable long-lasting batteries and support for Kami Cloud and microSD card.

The included mounting helps you mount this pretty much wherever you can pop screws into. Once mounted, you can easily unscrew to replace and recharge batteries.

Battery Life

While the camera comes with the promise of an extremely long battery life, it varies depending on your usage. The camera isn’t always on, and really only works when motion detection kicks in, or if you try and see through the camera through the app.

With the system constantly monitoring, the batteries lasted about a month, so we got a fair bit out of them.

You can set schedules, or manually adjust when you’re home or away, making this more optimised to draw the battery life out even more.

Similarly, you can choose to save shorter clips instead of longer ones to optimise this. The default is 6 seconds, but you can make it as long as 20 seconds.

Advanced Motion Detection

The lens on this security camera is a 140° wide-angle. Images produced are 1080p HD with enhanced night vision capabilities allowing you to stay on top of your home security 24/7.

This pretty much captured any human interaction, but when mounted at ‘head height’, it wasn’t able to catch any cats. Waving trees were captured a lot, so we did get a lot of false negatives.

Setup

The setup is reasonably simple, and the instructions are included in the box. We had a bit of trouble connecting this to our WiFi, but since then there hasn’t been a problem.

Image Quality

The image quality is pretty decent. Human faces are pretty recognisable, though a slower frame does mean that you might miss out on certain details. Overall, nothing to complain about. Works perfectly as a security camera.

Secured Data With Kami Cloud

Your data is also given extra security thanks to Kami Cloud. Your data is safely secured through Microsoft Azure, that offers the same level of security and privacy that protects millions of businesses around the world. So much that it surpasses the highest US and European data privacy requirements.

Since it is an outdoor camera, it is prone to theft and damage. But the Kami Cloud support allows all your data to be securely stored on the cloud, keeping it safe and available whenever you need.

The free account offers you up to 6 seconds of video for every motion, and you can go back and look at them over a day. You also have a ‘cool down period’ after every capture, which means you could lose some information.

The paid for account starts at £40/year, and saves data for 7 days, allowing one camera, while for £150/year, you can have up to 30 days, and up to 5 cameras. More details on their website.

Recharge And Reuse

There are four high powered rechargeable batteries and USB C charger included in the package. The Kami battery charger can be used to juice them up quickly so that you can easily recharge and reuse the security camera. It takes a few hours to charge your camera, and you get notified over the app, so can easily fit it in.

More information

More information on this can be found on the Kami Store website, where you can buy this from £79 (currently). It is also available from the likes of Amazon.
