Soundbars are increasingly going beyond their original remit of boosting TV sound – and one such ambitious ‘bar is the new Polk Signa S3 (£279), which complements standard TV connections with multi-room, network music streaming.

The soundbar also works with Google Assistant but you’ll need a separate Google Home device (or you can use the Google Home app for iOS and Android). As with any Google Home or Chromecast devices, you can also add the Signa S3 to a group of speakers enabling you to easily set up multi-room audio.

As far as duties to transform TV sound go, the Signa S3 has HDMI and HDMI ARC sockets for one-cable connectivity, through which it can decode Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks. An alternative optical input is also onboard.

The Signa S3 also includes Polk Audio’s patented Voice Adjust technology, which enables listeners to specifically adjust voice channel levels when watching movies, TV shows or sporting events to never miss a word of dialogue. For ease of operation, the soundbar automatically works with TV remotes from Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Sony (as well as most CEC enabled TVs) to control volume. DSP modes such as ‘Movie’, ‘Music’, and ‘Night Mode’ optimize the audio output of the soundbar and wireless subwoofer for clarity and detail for whatever source you happen to be watching. HDMI and optical cables are included in the box.

Michael McCole, senior product marketing manager for soundbars at Polk Audio said: “If you’re in the market for a straightforward, but dramatic boost to your home theater system, the Signa S3 covers all the bases. It sounds huge, works with virtually any TV and TV brand, decodes Dolby Digital for great virtual surround sound, and has Chromecast to easily stream your favorite music into your living room.”

The Signa S3 joins the Signa Solo and Signa S2 to round out the company’s full Signa Series line of soundbars.

  • Signa Solo Sound Bar (£149)—With sound quality top-of-mind, the Signa Solo is a universal home theater soundbar that extends far beyond its price tag with an expansive, multi-dimensional soundstage and detailed stereo imaging for music and home theater applications leveraging Polk’s Patented SDA digital surround technology.
  • Signa S2 Sound Bar and Subwoofer system (£199)—Builds on the Signa Series with bigger sound, Dolby Digital decoding, HDMI ARC compatibility, Voice Adjust, and a tuned driver array for better clarity, spaciousness, and detail.

Pricing and Availability

The Polk Audio Signa S3 soundbar and subwoofer system comes with HDMI and optical cables to avoid extra trips to the store and will be available at select Polk dealers across the UK from June 4 for £279/$249/€279 MSRP.
