Former Bsoch’s Key Experts Will Be Joining a LiDAR Startup

The World Health Organization’s Global Status Road Saftey Report concluded that around 1.35 million people died in road traffic collisions in the year 2018. Moroever, it also stated that 3700 people die in car accidents every day. Technology can do wonders to change lives and autonomous driving is a safer way to travel than human driving.

However, people still have concerns about the safety of autonomous driving mostly due to the autopilot accidents of Tesla’s autopilot. Therefore, RoboSense has emphasized on the importance of introducing LiDAR, which goes beyond the current perception limits of millimeter-wave radars and cameras, quickly and accurately identifies and classifies obstacles and reduces the car accident rate.

As of now, the automotive LiDAR market is highly competitive. This includes not only OEMs and Tier 1s but also many startups that are making LiDARs. There are several techniques that are being used including mechanical spinning, MEMS, OPA, flash, etc. However, it is clear what the future development of LiDAR is going to look like. It is smart and meets all the requirements from automotive-grade and mass production.

RoboSense, the leading provider of Smart automotive LiDAR Sensor Systems, will be announcing launching an elite team in Germany including 3 former key members from Bosch’s LiDAR team, and all of them own Ph.D. degrees of Optical Engineering or Physics and more than 8 years’ experience in LiDAR system or AD/ADAS development in global OEMs and Tier 1 companies, including Harman and Aptiv as below:

Dr. Alexander Greiner was one of the key system engineers and architects in Bosch and Faro LiDAR, responsible for multiple programs and projects, including the development, design, optimization, and implementation of automotive as well as terrestrial LiDAR systems. He is also one of the first introducing the agile process in LiDAR system development which greatly facilitates transparency as well as efficiency and allows for flexibility in steering the project’s direction.

Dr. Siegwart Bogatscher was previously a key member of the Bosch Laser Scanner development team for more than 5 years, mainly responsible for the automotive-grade LiDAR system architecture design. In 2018 he took over the team lead of the LiDAR system engineering team at Bosch.

Dr. Nico Heußner previously worked in the Bosch Laser Scanner development team on Optics, Eye Safety and was in charge of several LiDAR related research topics. As director of research and innovation, he will be in charge of the research lab located in Karlsruhe in order to innovate and develop LiDAR technology including organizing and executing research projects with partners from industry and academics.

Dr. Andre Malz is an experienced optical system architect expert with over 15 years’ experience in developing complex electronic and optoelectronic system architectures and worked for global automotive Tier-1 companies, Harman and Aptiv prior to joining RoboSense. From 2015 to 2018, he was the Lead Systems Engineer at Harman, and was responsible for automotive infotainment systems and ADAS systems and coordinate a development team with systems, software, hardware, mechanics, testing/validation, and functional safety.
