Coronavirus: Breaking Your Quarantine is Not ‘Brave’ But Selfish

The Coronavirus Outbreak has taken over the entire world with an overwhelming sense of fear and uncertainty. What started from Wuhan, China is today a pandemic killing many people across the world on a daily basis. Although when it started in China the experts did predict that things could take a serious turn but little did anyone know that it would become one of the biggest threats to mankind and put everything on the halt. Since the Coronavirus was highly contagious and the world was a global village, it spread quickly to many cities in the world.

Today the epicentre of the Coronavirus is Europe where numerous people are dying on a daily basis. Although the mortality rate is only 2%, it is still quite natural to be scared because you never know who that 2 % are. So far there is no distinct treatment or vaccine developed for the Coronavirus. There is only one way of staying safe and keeping things under control and that is social distancing or self-isolation. This is why many public spaces like gyms, cinemas, night clubs, bars, and theme parks have been closed down. People are being strictly advised to avoid gatherings and stay home.

Right now, there is no other preventive measure that seems to work.

Many people across the world are doing it as a precautionary measure even when they have not been asked to do so by the governments. If you are young and healthy, probably the coronavirus will not affect you much but you can possibly be the carrier of the dormant virus which might affect someone vulnerable with compromised immunity in the form of fatality. Hence social distancing is not only for your own but also for the greater good of the people around you.

It is ironic that many people have been bringing forth rather boasting this point that they were keeping their lives normal, going out, and doing everything they did before. There has also been news of those who broke their quarantine to be out and about. To them, it is a sign of bravery that they are not ‘scared’ of a pandemic which is slowly killing everyone irrespective of the race, ethnicity, and gender. To them, it is a medal that they want to sport proudly on their chest.

To be brutally honest, not isolating yourself in the times of Coronavirus is not brave but outright selfish. You can become the source of infecting many others around you who might not even be able to deal with the implications of this fatal-for-some viral disease. I am a hale and hearty woman with healthy habits and an effective immune system. It definitely does not give me the license to go out and about in public and infect anyone else who might not be able to take it. Not observing isolation and social distancing is not a sign of bravery but the height of insensitivity that you should never be proud of.

Experience social distancing and self-quarantine not only for yourself but for everyone else around you.
