Coolest Kitchen Widgets for 2020

The kitchen is perhaps the most exciting room of the house when going shopping. For some reason, men and women unite in their love for kitchen gadgets. Whether it’s technologically cool or it’s functionality will shave off time spent labouring over cooking, kitchen appliances can be a place to display peak innovation.

Of course, there’s a lot of flashy ideas that we never use, too. Electronic chopping for example seems more effort than what it’s worth. Peeling onions and potatoes are the nightmare task, and once completed, you may as well just chop it yourself and save on washing up the awkwardly large machine.

This article will try and put together some of the coolest gadgets for the kitchen in 2020, but that at least serve a function and won’t be forgotten about at the back of the cupboard.

Herb saver pod

Initially, the herb saver pod (by Prepara) appears to be yet another gadget that you’ll forget to use. This is where you’re wrong, though. If you frequently use fresh herbs, then there’s no reason not to use this gadget. It claims to triple the life of your herbs, meaning that you will waste much less food when cooking. That’s not bad for $16.79 either, and given its slick and elegant design, it’s a nice container aesthetically.

Usually with these gadgets, they’re a pain because it’s extra washing up. The herb saver pod though arguably doesn’t need to be cleaned all that often. You might shake out the remains after the final herbs are used, but really, you only need to clean it properly every few weeks.

Fellow Smart kettle

Smart appliances are cropping up more and more, and the Appkettle has actually been around for a year or two now. However, in 2020, smart kitchen appliances are still not commonplace. What is a smart appliance? Something that can be controlled electronically, perhaps via wifi or voice control. This kettle can even do Bluetooth, in fact. You can heat up your water at a specific temperature, and through a click of a button on your mobile. $199.99 is a lot for a kettle, but it comes with a 2-year warranty and it can make some (not all) lives a little easier.

Mitbak smoking gun

This is perhaps the coolest one on the list, and is something I’ve never seen before. Usually, if you want your meat to be smoked then you would buy it like that. But now, you can smoke it yourself with the Polyscience smoke gun. For only $59.99, the smoke gun comes with smoking chips for infusion. This is a handy little device that is surprisingly priced.

Milk frother

A milk frother may be surplus to requirements for many, but coffee lovers (in particular latte lovers) can get great use out of this. Milk frothers are similarly priced on Amazon: around $40. Frothing milk the right way isn’t actually easy, so getting a machine to do it for you is a sensible solution. They also look very modern, and will complement a black coffee machine nicely.

2020 toasters

Toasters are the bread and butter of the kitchen, but how can they be innovative? Well, you have some interesting options if you’re willing to spend a little more. For $50, you can get a see-through toaster. This will help prevent things from burning, and having to pop it up and down constantly. For Star Wars lovers, there’s also a Star Wars toaster that will ingrain the logo of Star Wars into the bread. Because, well… why not?

Appliance insurance – is it worth it?

As we can see from above, having cool, useful gadgets can be expensive. It’s not just the cost of buying them outright, though. Maintaining a high-end kitchen is very expensive, with breakdowns costing a lot to repair. It’s just toasters and kettles – you have so many appliances. Washer machines and dishwashers are a pain to fix yourself, and getting a professional in can be pricey.

It’s important to insure such appliances if you want to avoid replacement costs or paying for a professional to fix them (or at least, the ones that are super important to your daily living). Most will have a limited manufacturer warranty, though. Yet, getting extended warranties can be expensive, especially if you have a lot of gadgets. A home warranty contract can be a blanket cover for all of them, as well as your major home systems. This might be around $400+ per year, but it covers you for even the most expensive appliances and systems breaking down.

  1. I definitely need a 2020 toaster model. The one I currently use is old and don’t give me that crispy toasted bread I so much love. Thanks for the review.
