Setup

Like most mice these days, you pretty much pop in the USB dongle and off you go with your mouse. However, the Logitech G604 also offers a Bluetooth connection, and you can switch between a ‘USB’ (or more like, Lightspeed) connection and a Bluetooth connection by long pressing (around a second does) the connectivity button. When in Bluetooth mode, the LED below the button shines a dark blue, the kind of colour we associate with the Bluetooth logo. When in USB/Lightspeed mode, it is more of a lighter blue.

In Bluetooth mode, go to the settings of your device, and simply pair. It can only remember one Bluetooth device at a time, and the pairing can be forgotten if needed via the G Hub software.

If you do want to use this device for gaming or more intensive work (like my use of CAD), it is highly recommended to install the Logitech G-Hub software. It works on both Windows and Mac, and allows you to configure the settings as well as the extra buttons on the mouse.

Appearance

Logitech G604 Gaming Mouse

While it looks the part, it is actually quite light at 146g. It has a nice comfortable feel in your right hand, with a rest for your thumb.

The top has the scroll wheel which can be changed to go from ‘clunky’ scroll (i.e. move in clunks rather smoothly) to smooth scroll with the button just below. It also allows sideway scroll.

The button below that adjusts your connectivity between Bluetooth and Lightspeed, as mentioned in the section above.

The left and right click buttons sit either side.

On the top left are buttons showing + and – symbols, which allow you to adjust the DPI.

On the side, left side, are 6 customisable buttons. They work reasonably well and sit perfectly for your thumb to press during intensive game play.

At the lower end of the top side is the magnetic cover that hides the battery compartment as well as the USB dongle.

Underneath you will the HERO sensor as well as the On/Off switch.

Usage

The actual usage of the mouse is pretty smooth. Once configured, the profiles work really well. The G-Hub software allows you to assign keys, applications and even Macros to the buttons, meaning you can pretty much do what you like with it. I have to say though, that it took me ages to find ‘asterisk (i.e. *)’ because it was labelled NUMSTAR (i.e. the star in the NumPad) in the G-Hub software. While it makes sense to me now, it did make it a wee bit difficult to find.

As far as speed goes, I found absolutely no reason to complain or even notice that speed could be an issue. The ‘wireless-ness’ is truly here thanks to the Lightning Speed.

Since I work as an Electronics Engineer, I found this mouse very good to help me work through various productivity shortcuts I need to apply at work doing Electronics CAD.

The best feature for me is the connectivity button. Pressing that means I can easily go from a device I have it configured with as Bluetooth (i.e. my MacBook Pro) and my work rig (i.e. the machine I do my Electronics CAD) on.

All in all, this is the best mouse I have used for productivity.
