DENON INTRODUCES ALL-IN-ONE SOUNDBAR WITH VIRTUAL 3D SOUND

Denon soundbar

Denon’s first All-in-One soundbar to feature DTS Virtual:X comes in at a reasonable £199 and, once connected to an HD or 4K TV via the HDMI-ARC or optical input, it uses advanced 3D algorithms developed by DTS to realistically simulate a multi-channel soundtrack played on a home theatre surround sound system. The resulting audio immersion gives a sense of dimensionality without the need for additional speakers.

Despite the slimline nature of the DHT-S216, Denon has packed in two 3-inch down-firing subwoofers, two racetrack-sized dual mid-range drivers and two 1-inch tweeters, and the sound from these have been tuned by Denon’s technicians to deliver high-quality playback of music and movies.

At just 6cm tall, the DHT-S216 is small enough to sit in front of a TV without blocking the IR remoter sensor, or it can be mounted on a wall under the screen, and yet it’s large enough to produce a big sound thanks to a couple of 3-inch down-firing subwoofers, two racetrack-sized dual mid-range drivers and a pair of 1-inch tweeters.

New to this soundbar is a Pure Mode which eliminates surround processing and removes any adjusted sound-shaping associated with Movie, Music or Night EQ settings for a more precise and open sound. In effect, Pure Mode lets the user bypass all the sound processing of the soundbar and would be ideal for playing CDs via the optical input. Listeners can also pair the soundbar with a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth.

Compatibility

The wall-mountable Denon DHT-S216 is compatible with all HD and 4K TVs, and there’s even an HDMI cable provided in the box so that the whole thing can be set-up in a couple of minutes. This soundbar sounds like a well-featured entry-level model that would suit TVs up to 40-inches. Beyond that, you might want to consider something a little larger and more powerful, but for a bedroom or small living room, this looks like a good bet

“The latest soundbar from Denon has been engineered to deliver the most lifelike listening experience, including detail, balance and bass extension far beyond other soundbars in this size and price range,” said Michael Greco, Global Sr. Director of Brand Management for Denon. “The DHT-S216 leverages partnerships with the industry’s leading virtual surround sound manufacturers like DTS and Dolby to provide people with a simple way to experience the excitement of cinematic sound quality at home.”

Features:

  • Low-profile design at 6cm tall. The DHT-S216 fits in most spaces and won’t block a TV’s bottom edge or IR remote sensor.
  • Built-in Subwoofers: The two 3″ down-firing subwoofers mean there’s no need to have a separate subwoofer taking up space.
  • Denon Dialogue Enhancer is a feature that Deno claims can improve dialogue intelligibility with three different modes. Users can also turn up dialogue without adjusting the overall volume level.
  • Three Preset EQ Options of movie, night, and music for optimizing sound.
  • DTS Virtual:X is an immersive surround format delivering lifelike sound without the need for additional speakers.
  • Dolby Digital Decoding plays back discrete multi-channel Dolby surround sound.
