Audio-Technica’s Wireless ATH-G1WL and ATH-G1 Gaming Headsets Bring Immersive Studio-Quality Sound to Game Audio at CES 2020

Microphones and headphones maker Audio-Technica will debut its two new wireless and premium headsets specifically designed for gamers. The wireless ATH-G1WL and the wired premium ATH-G1 gaming headsets feature the same design as Audio-Technica’s existing ATH-M50x professional studio headphones. The new headphones boast a lightweight design without compromising their studio audio quality. These new audio devices are built for both esports players and casual gamers, allowing for extensive gaming sessions with extreme comfort. Audio-Technica’s gaming headsets will be on exhibit at CES 2020 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 1, Booth 20648 (January 7 – 10, 2020).

“A compelling gaming experience just isn’t complete without great sound,” said Bob Peet, Audio-Technica US Marketing Manager. “Our ATH-G1WL and ATH-G1 deliver powerful, expansive audio quality that lets gamers experience all the sonic impact of home gaming, online streaming and eSports.”

ATH-G1

Audio-Technica

Available for at $169/£159 at the time of writing, the ATH-G1 is in the upper echelons when it comes to price tags, and a glimpse of the spec sheet reveals why. The massive 5Hz-40KHz range is easily capable of hi-res audio reproduction, a lightweight 0.6 pounds and an understated look that makes the ATH-G1 pass for street-ready headphones when the mic’s detached. What’s not to like? Of course, quite a few gaming headsets make similar promises, and as we often find during testing, the devil is in the details.

The wired ATH-G1 (SRP: US$169.00) is compatible with PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and any platform with a 3.5 mm headset connector. Once plugged in, the headset provides a secure connection and offers a superior audio experience.

ATH-G1WL

Equipped with the same 45mm drivers and specially-engineered detachable microphone as the ATH-G1, with the added flexibility of stable, low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, the ATH-G1WL (SRP: US$249.00) is convenient, comfortable and cutting-edge. It also adds virtual surround sound, for an even more immersive 3D audio gaming experience that places you in the center of the action.

With 15 hours of battery life, the headset will last through the longest gaming sessions – but it will also work while charging. It features controls for surround sound, volume and mute on the earcup.

Compatibility

The G1’s 6.6-foot 3.5mm connector makes it compatible with PCs and all current-gen gaming consoles, like the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

The G1WL, on the other hand, is really only compatible with PCs and Macs via the included 2.4GHz USB-A wireless transceiver. Sorry, console players. However, you do get a good tradeoff in the form of 7.1 virtual surround sound for totally immersive gameplay.

At CES 2020 Audio-Technica will also be exhibiting its high-quality ATH-AG1x closed-back and ATH-ADG1x open-back high-fidelity gaming headsets (SRP: US$249.00 each). Each delivers a spacious sonic environment that draws participants completely into the playing field. The headsets feature 53 mm, large-diameter drivers, for impactful sound and include a gooseneck microphone with volume control.
