Sports Industry to see a revolution with the advent of 5G

Vodafone conducted research on 5G and the results have revealed tremendous benefits for the sports industry. The fan experience, club operations and player performance are to benefit from the advent of 5G, the research suggests. The search results dictate that more than three-quarters of business leaders from sports organizations see it happening. The research suggests that 5G, more than any other technology, will drive change and enable such experiences.

Research Results

The Vodafone officially opened its Business Lounge at the Ricoh Arena home of Wasps Rugby and Netball Clubs in Coventry, where the research results were revealed. Vodafone took into account the perspectives of business decision-makers in the sports industry throughout the UK. the concluded that over three quarters, around 76%, confirm that their companies will be making use of 5G to innovate and indulge with the modern tech world. Out of these, 74 % believe that it will underpin efforts to meet rising fan expectations. 

76 is a big number and that’s the percentage of people who believe 5G will do wonders that 4G could not. Fan engagement will be improved through refined live streaming, mixed reality experiences and real-time access to information reinventing the fan experience both for those at the event or watching elsewhere. 

Anne Sheehan, Director, Vodafone Business UK, said: “Sport is an area where 5G technology will have a huge impact. It has the potential to transform the fan experience; change the way sports organisations operate, open up new revenue opportunities; and help athletes improve their fitness and training programmes.  Our holographic call with Steph Houghton last year was a great example of how technology can be used to bring fans closer to the action and give them experiences that were previously out of reach.”

It is not just about the improved fan experience. Leading Sports analyst and leaders also talked about how 5G will help with innovation (30%). Moreover, it will also improve player performance (30%) as well as talent (27%). Be that as it may, 78% of leaders already believe that the sports industry is doing incredible. However, another 70% believe it lacks behind than other sectors with regards to technology. 

Anne added: “It is hugely encouraging that a remarkable 80 per cent of sports organisations believe 5G will underpin how they run their companies. We want to help organisations understand the potential of 5G and benefit from its speed, responsiveness and reliability. We think this technology is a game-changer for businesses, the economy and the UK as a whole.”
