HONOR Band 5 receives OTA update

HONOR Band 5

The globally renowned smartphone brand, HONOR, introduced the Pulse Oxygen Saturation (SpO2) monitoring and remote music control to the HONOR Band 5. Due to these added features, the HONOR Band 5 becomes an all in one fitness tracker heart rate monitor and sleep tracker.

SpO2 tracking

For all those who have to keep a track of their blood oxygen saturation, the HONOR Band 5 brings the feature for you. Blood oxygen measurement is a key indicator in determining the oxygen supply to cells and tissues. Good blood oxygenation for a normal person lies between 90% and 100% and is necessary for supply of energy to muscles for proper functioning. If the blood oxygen levels drop below 89%, a person would know its a sign of worry and can immediately take appropriate action.

HONOR has decided to add the SpO2 tracking to all the HONOR 5’s through over the air software update which will be made available on September 30th. The SpO2 tracking will work in combination with the health app. As soon as the Band 5 and the Huawei health app receive the updates, users will be allowed to choose the blood oxygen monitoring’ section on their Band 5 and click to start measuring, then see the results in their Huawei Health app. However, the data provided by the Band is only for the user’s reference and should be considered as absolute medical data.

Remote music control

HONOR is not applying brakes at the SpO2. it is also featuring remote music controls to the Band 5 through the update. As soon as Band 5 receives the update, all users need to do is to switch on the Music Control via the health app. As a result, users will be allowed to use Band 5 to instantly view and control their favorite music apps from the convenience of their wrists. Apps supported include Google Play Music, Spotify, YouTube, Shazam and many more.

Design and Features

Equipped with a 0.95″ AMOLED Full-Colour touchscreen, the HONOR Band 5’s screen resolution of 240x 120 pixels at 282 PPI is easy to read, even under direct sunlight. A single charge provides 14-days of normal usage.

When paired with a smartphone, the HONOR Band 5 also alerts users of incoming calls, SMS, email and SNS notifications. A remote-control function allows users to capture photos from both the rear and front cameras of the phone in a single click. When Bluetooth is activated, users are even able to locate the paired phone via the “Find phone” function.

George Zhao, the President of HONOR, said, “HONOR’s users are incredibly active and dynamic. The HONOR Band 5 is designed to meet these needs, offering a stylish design which doubles up as a heart rate monitor and fitness tracker, all in one practical, fashionable accessory.”
