Garmin Forerunner 45 – Calendar Widget issues

The Garmin Forerunner 45 is a brilliant fitness device/smartwatch, and it has become my favourite watch recently. I am still working on the review but documenting somethings as I go along. One of them was connectivity, which seems to work a lot better now. I have discovered another issue recently, around the Calendar widget, so thought I’d post about it and open the floor to ask everyone if they have seen similar.

Calendar Widget – The issue:

The issue I have seen is around the use of Calendar Widget. Normally, when you use a widget on the Garmin Forerunner 45, it shows you some information. If the widget has more information to show than it can fit on a screen, it will show three dots at the bottom of the screen. Those three dots are an invitation to press the Start||Stop button, and then it shows you more information. It works well on fitness metrics as well as notifications, and such like. Same goes for the Calendar Widget.

Here is a video that shows the problem in action:

As you can see, I have the UP arrow configured to bring the Calendar Widget up. This means that the Calendar Widget is the last in my list of widgets. When you press the Start||Stop button on it to see more information, you can see the screen freeze, followed shortly by the Garmin logo, showing that the device has rebooted. You can even see the time appear showing the phone icon not connected, followed by connected.

I am not entirely sure if the problem exists entirely with my device, my software version, the fact that I use an iPhone (where the Connect app will gather data from) or the fact that I subscribe to a few calendars so there is probably a lot of information there. Either way, let me know if you know of any solutions/causes to this.

Update

Since the last firmware update (2.8.0.0), this problem has been fixed.

More information

More information on the Garmin Forerunner 45 can be found on the Garmin website.

It retails for around £169 and can be bought from various online retailers such as Amazon. It offers two sizes, 39mm and 42mm. I went for the bigger one. A few colours are available as well.
