Lakemba Ramadan Nights

It is my first Ramadan in a non-Muslim country. Before this, I have always lived in Muslim countries where life majorly revolved around the suhoor and iftar once this month started. My first Ramadan in Sydney, however, had a different sight to offer. Unlike my prior experience, here I have to be at work on time. There is no leverage as to finishing the stuff late. I try to smile at my friends who are busy having the juiciest fried chicken for lunch while I pretend that it does not even matter. Above all, I can not just pick samosas and pakoras from the roadside vendors. In simple words, it is not hyped. It is not all about religion but also about a cultural aspect associated with Ramzan. the festivity and excitement related to the whole affair is a part of our nostalgia.

Getting to know of Lakema Ramadan Nights was a pleasant surprise. I got to know of these through a friend who had been insisting me to visit the neighborhood since I had moved here. Lakemba is one of the most go-to places for the Muslim community in Sydney for all the right halal foods(including Pakistani too) and not to forget the economical halal meat in pure desi cuts. Hence, no matter where you live Lakemba is a must visit each week for desi groceries, if not anything else.

Apologies for not having it and hence no recommendation because the queue was so long that it gave me shudders already.

The famous Pakistani mart Ali Store offers you all the typical Pakistani style foods from desi chicken corn soup to chicken samosas. You can not miss out on their live tandoor and the scrumptious naan kebabs.

On just a few minutes walk from Lakemba train station, the location is pretty accessible. It is, however, advisable to leave your cars home and travel by train as parking might be an issue. Although excessively crowded, this is a great place to take kids with you because living in the multi-cultural Australia Lakemba Ramadan Nights gives you an option to show them the cultural aspect of Islam. Interestingly, it is excessively criticized by the clerics for its enthusiasm.

Happiness is not much appreciated in their eyes, actually. This place is a must visit. Take your friends and family along and make the most of it. Make sure you are really hungry before going.
