Home Projects to Start this Spring

Springtime isn’t just for spring cleaning, there are lots of home projects that are perfect for the season, whether you’ve recently purchased a home among Brampton real estate, or you’ve been living in your house for years. While it’s traditionally home-building season, as Angie’s Lists notes, it’s also the time most of us come out of winter hibernation and want to start something new.

Bring in the Joy of Spring with Color

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to update your home and bring the joy of spring into your life is with paint. You can take inspiration from the flora and fauna around you as well as all the lovely spring colours. Think about the atmosphere you want to create, leaning toward vibrant hues like rich greens and bold blues. Colours from your garden, perhaps a blossom, leaf or bud, can be ideal.

Don’t forget about your front door. Front doors can start looking worn quickly, with sun and heat fading the painting, warping and cracking the surface of a wooden door. By re-painting, it helps seal the wood and protect it from the elements in addition to giving the entrance to your home a facelift.

Flood Rooms with Natural Light

If your windows took a beating from winter elements, they’re probably coated with grime. The first step is to make them clear and shiny so that they’ll bring in as much light as possible. You may also want to think about adding room windows that can be opened and close to make a room feel larger, creating the illusion of added space.

Upgrade Your Kitchen with Backsplash

While you may not be able to do a total kitchen remodel, you can upgrade it with backsplash. There are practically an endless number of options, from classic subway tiles to glass mosaics and even peel and stick versions that anyone can do.

Clean Up and/or Spray Paint Patio and Lawn Furniture

When spring finally arrives, you’ll probably start bringing out that lawn and patio furniture, which will likely be covered with dust, dirt and cobwebs. Give it a good washing with a hose, and if it still looks bad, get a can of spray paint to make it look almost new again.

A DIY Sunflower Wreath

The first thing your guests will see when they visit is your front door. And, there are few things that say spring better than flowers. A floral wreath is a great way to make your guests feel welcome at springtime, brightening the entrance to your home. It’s easy to make with just a few items, including sunflowers, a floral form wreath, moss and silver dollar eucalyptus U-pins. Soak the wreath in water for about an hour to keep the greenery looking fresh longer and then cover the front with moss, using the pins as needed. Be sure to cover up the sides so that no foam is showing through, then add the eucalyptus. Place the springs so that they curve with the read, leaving some space for the moss to show through. Next add the sunflowers, cutting the stems about an inch from the flower. Remove excess leaves and stick the stem directly into the wreath, securing it with pins.
