Biryani vs Pulao- it’s REAL!

Some jokes are Twitter jokes only. No one outside twitter is able to understand or relate to them. The recent biryani vs pulao spat was one of such jokes. Ironical that I am equating war with jokes. But it all began as a joke until the armours started wagging their swords and spears. It soon turned out into a full fledged war with almost zero or little tolerance of the enemy’s war camps. Biryani vs Pulao turned out to be stronger and more lethal than an India vs Pakistan match. Some diplomacy works there too. But here hell hath no fury like a foodie scorned.

Initiated by Mahwash Ajaz and fuelled by Malik Omaid sitting in completely different parts of the world this war took over the entire Twitterati by storm.

However, the good part was people keeping cast and creed aside and just uniting to fight in the favour of their famous rice helping.

While Team Biryani raved about the beautiful hues and fragrance team Pulao had a plethora of praises. They traced back its ethnicity to the ancient Indus Valley civilization thereby terming Biryani the taste of traitors. Pulao was classified as the taste of heaven.

Here ethnic differences also came to light. Punjabis or for that matter anyone outside Sindh is believed to have know-how of the art of Biryani in its full galore. They say Lahore is at a complete loss when it comes to Biryani and is only capable of naming yellow coloured salted rice as Biryani. Despite weakly defending itself for years, this was provided Lahore to flaunt what it is capable of then defending what it doesn’t. If Lahore is a pulao connoisseur why not celebrate it? Why not worship the subtlety of long grain basmati rice in meat broth over a calculated time with carefully picked up meat and proportions? They brushed away Biryani calling it a mix of leftover curry and rice.

Seriously?

Here media could not let this war go unnoticed so that the audience (which was barely any as everyone was participating) could grab a seat with some lemon malt and popcorn. Various polls were conducted and everyone decided to believe their favourite results. Here grim and intense writers could also not keep calm and tried to fight this war through pen and not blood. However, nothing could stop the storm.

Some also got sick of this biryani pulao rant and decided to stay away altogether.

Biryani won, by hook or by crook. They say it was rigged but who can beat the official results. Life comes in various colours and tastes. Better .
