Keys to Becoming a Cooking Expert for Your Foodie Blog

We’ve all watched the cooking shows on food network, and either thought a food looked delicious, or that you could make that exact same meal, but it would look, and probably taste, ten times better than what was on the TV.

Some of us use cooking shows to give us meal inspirations, whether it be just a weeknight meal, or for special occasions. The thought has probably crossed your mind of having your own cooking show. You figure if Ree Drummond can do it, why can’t you? She started out sharing her recipes on her personal blog before becoming a cooking sensation on her hit TV show, The Pioneer Woman.

If you are one who’s always hosting dinners, or just simply always in the kitchen, why not start a cooking blog? As soon as you figure out what you want to call your website, you can let your creative juices flow.

Some of us are lucky enough to have our grandparents and great-grandparents around today to share the recipes of our ancestors, from generation to generation. Other families have lost recipes from their family members. Back in their day, they didn’t really use measurements…well, some did, but the majority just used a pinch of this, and a sprinkle of that.

You know how there’s a particular meal or food that just doesn’t taste the same unless a particular person makes it…it makes you wish you could turn back the hands of time and go back to when your grandmother would make her famous pound cake every Sunday.

It’s too bad blogs weren’t out in the days of our grandparents. Couldn’t you just picture your grandmother in the kitchen sharing her buttermilk biscuit recipe with the world? She would surely be an internet sensation with all her delicious recipes.

The days of lost recipes are long gone now. Today’s technology makes it easy to document every recipe you make, whether it’s on video or through pictures. If you follow these tips, you’re sure to be regarded as an expert on your cooking blog.

Make Your Blog Relatable and Painless

When starting your own blog, you want your content to be relatable. People want to get on your blog and feel at home, as if the things you’re saying and doing on your blog can be done by just as well anyone.

Making your blog relatable is the process wherein you give your blog a personality. Your blog is about food, of course, but you can also talk about your day, and what lead up to the recipe you’re sharing. If you’re a mom of three, and you’re going to share a hassle-free lasagna recipe, you might talk about what happened earlier in the day as to why you chose a hassle-free lasagna. People really enjoy reading about that. It doesn’t have to be long and drawn out, but you want to take people on a journey with you, as well.

Your blog having a painless quality is also an important factor as well. The painless I’m referring to is the easy factor…an easy recipe, that’s easy to prepare, and easy to clean up. One thing about these cooking shows you see on TV is that some of the necessary ingredients require you to go to certain markets or locations that are not in your city or town, in order to properly prepare the meal.

Most people are looking for ease when cooking, and that goes for the majority of anyone. If it can’t be found at a Walmart, Kroger, or Publix, a lot of people get turned off from it. Whether you’re single or have a family to take care, everyone has to eat, and you want to make the process as painless as possible.

Everyone has a life, and we all get busy, so an ideal meal would be something delicious that’s not too daunting. If you can nail this aspect, your follower count will increase tremendously!

Know the Latest Kitchen Gadgets

With ease comes cool kitchen hacks. If you know of different appliances and utensils that make life in the kitchen easier, your followers will definitely want to know. This is something that you will have to do your research on by testing different products, and seeing how you like them. Whether you like it or not, you can tell your followers about your experience with it, and whether you recommend it or not.

You may know about latest in food storage, or the newest non-stick cookware. Sharing that information with your followers will not only make them want to go out and try that product for themselves, but it will also establish a trust in you with them. That trust will be established whether you like a particular product or not. They will take your word for it either way.

Provide Tasty Recipes

Aside from the kitchen gadgets, the recipes are going to be what ultimately brings your followers to your site. This is really what you created your blog for. You get to share your recipes with people from all over. You no longer will have to look at cooking shows and think to yourself how you make a recipe ten times better; now, you can just show people how you make it better!

The recipe portion of your blog is where you will shine. You will, of course, share your recipe with all necessary ingredients and step-by-step instructions, but this is also where you can instil more trust in your followers by putting the proof in your pudding (literally and figuratively!).

You can make videos of your recipe, and post pictures of the preparation process, along with finished product pictures. This will show, and prove to your followers, that you indeed used all ingredients you said to use, confirm preparation time, and it will show the ease of the preparation. Once the meal is done, you have to record yourself tasting the final product. With that first bite, you can’t forget to close your eyes and tell everyone how amazing that first bite was.
