RAVPower Wireless Charger – 10W

Around four to five years ago, wireless charging was the future. A whole suite of Android flagships came with the feature built on, or you could buy cases that would convert the device into a wirelessly charged one. Apple didn’t quite follow suit, and for some weird reason, the wireless charging passion seemed to disappear. Till last year, when Apple jumped into the wireless charging arena itself with the iPhone X. Predictably, wireless charging is back on the Android agenda, and everything from the Samsung devices all the way to Huawei are now featuring wireless charging. In fact, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro can even act as a wireless charger itself! As we were reviewing the device, we took the opportunity to look at the RAVPower Wireless Charger as well.

Look and feel

The device itself is a basic pad, not that different from the size of a coaster. Both top and bottom have anti-slip attachments, ensuring neither the device nor any phone on top will easily slip off once placed on it.

The front has an LED that gives you the device status (on/charging/error) and the back has the micro USB port, and some holes which are probably there to vent if needed.

The LED does come on when you power it on, but with no device on it, it will turn off. When you do place your phone on it, it will go green to indicate a good charge or red to indicate errors.

Usage/performance

The usage is pretty simple. Just pop your device on it, and see it charge. It really is that simple.

The performance will vary depending on your device, as well as the USB charger you use with it. It recommends to use a 2.1A charger, which is pretty typical these days. You can also use a 9V charger, if you have one.

Similarly, if you have a Quick Charge device, it can charge up to 10W. However, something like the iPhone X will only charge at 5W, ie a lot slower.

Overall, not much to complain. It just works.

Speed

It must be mentioned that the charging speed of this device will always be a lot slower than a wired charge.
