Baandi | Cast | Crew | Review

Baandi, a drama airing on Hum TV, stars Aiman Khan, Hina Dilpazeer, Muneeb Butt, Yasir Hussein and Hajra Yameen. Baandi is written by Asma Nabeel and directed by Ahmed Kamran.

The plot:

Meeru (Aiman Khan) is a girl living in rural lands.

She’s the daughter of a disabled farm worker who is exploited by the rich feudal (Yasir Hussein).

Muneeb Butt’s character, Wali, has a parallel storyline where he is fighting with his mother (Hina Dilpazeer).

She is a very rich and outwardly pious woman who lectures people on God and morality.

Wali’s sister (Hajra Yameen) has been in an unhappy marriage where she has lost a child and her husband is a cheating abuser.

Wali’s friend, Farhan, was a poorer choice for her in marriage but Wali’s mother refused and now she cannot leave her husband. Chotay Saeen (Yasir Hussein) has his eyes set on Meeru and now wants her to be his personal slave (gulp).

The OST:

The good stuff:

We didn’t think that we could stomach Yasir Hussein playing a negative character but he’s actually pulling it off really well. Also great are the issues of violence against women, violence against household servants which is a very pervasive issue in our society.

Every day we hear news of XYZ people in XYZ area who have beaten up their house help or dropped scalding tea on their hands. It also exposes the hypocrisies of the very ‘pious’ and ‘preachy’ women.

Such primitive and barbaric practices need to be called out and this drama brings attention to that.

The weird stuff:

Aiman Khan’s doing a great job so far but we still feel she’s a little too beautiful to be a farmer’s daughter. But then again. Stranger things have happened. Also the accents are a little bit jarring.

Overall verdict:

Baandi, despite its overtly rondu teasers and OSTs, is actually a very good watch and you’ll definitely enjoy the writing by Asma Nabeel!
