Social media is one of the most effective modes of putting talent across the table. One can never underestimate the power of its reach to masses. Over the past few years we have come across many stars that rose to fame through Facebook, Instagram etc. Interestingly, it does not even require a hardcore setup or connections. Just one video and there you are. Ahmad Abbas is one such example. Thank you Instagram and Facebook!
Coming from the illustrious house of Ahmad Bashir, this young boy is one of the greatest upcoming sensations in Pakistani music scene. What moved us the most was his command over classical music. Very rarely do we come across people from Ahmad’s generation who are as well trained and versed as him. Luckily we managed to get a hold of his contact and managed a contact. To our surprise, this boy is not only talented but immensely humble. Structuring this interview was an ordeal considering the work and distance constraints but this amazingly brilliant singer had no qualms. He stayed cool as a cucumber.
Okay, getting back to a quick question and answer session with the upcoming music sensation Ahmad Abbas…
1. We know this question sounds cliche but please tell us something about yourself.
Ahmad: Being the youngest I have always been very pampered. Despite having many superstars in the family, we had a very normal childhood. The same loving parents, the same caring sibling. I have recently completed my Bachelor in Mass Communication from the University of South Asia. Now I am planning to pursue my Masters degree.

2. Unlike most of the youngsters, you are into hardcore classical music. How did that come to you?
Ahmad: See, I had a very memorable childhood with classical music my nana Ahmad Bashir who was basically a writer and had a knack for hardcore classical music. My Naani also learned classical music and that talent went on in the bloodline. My mother Asma Abbas and her sisters (the veteran actor Bushra Ansari being one of them) also love to sing. Since my childhood, I have been listening to the melodies of Madam Noor Jahan, Mehdi Hassan Sahab, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Baray, and Chhotay Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab. Naani had a collection of some of the finest music from the sub-continent. My mother used to listen to all that music and somewhere it stayed with me.
Interestingly I have always loved music but I never had the faintest idea that I could sing as well. When I started singing, Urdu literature especially the ghazals captivated me so firmly that there was no looking back.

3. You come from a creative family. Does the baggage get overwhelming at times? Does it come as a convenience or as an added responsibility?
Ahmad: Absolutely a responsibility! My family is much more talented than me and I consider myself nowhere close to them. However, they have always supported and loved me in a way that I never felt overwhelmed or pressurized. But hey, let me confess. Every time Amma tells me to sing something for her, I do feel nervous. Hahaha.

Ahmad: Well I feel times have never been this interesting before. There are many underground circles which are producing great work on a daily basis and similarly many big brands and shots are not up to much. So it’s an interesting scenario.

Yeah, My family fully supports my decision and loves my music too. I often sing for them and they are always overjoyed.
