A very Lahori, very desi dawat

Although I try my level best not to write anything which is even remotely personal here on this forum today is an exception. It’s been over five months since I have moved to Pakistan. Living in the heart of Pakistan, Lahore is a bliss. No matter where we go and live a part of us always stays in Lahore and vice versa. This city is famous for its maddening and mind-boggling food; almost a religion to the people who live here. I am no exception and have been a die-hard foodie nearly all my life. Although leaving home was a heartbreak but coming back to my friends and food here was comforting.

Ayesha Ali, the very known chef from the famous Yeh Ghar Ka Hai, is closer than most of the people I have known for years. It is a friendship that has stood the test of hot waters and still kept going strong. Before I had moved here, Ayesha was giving me constant reminders about coming to her place and share a bite. One work and second family commitments kept me away but this time there was no chance I could turn down and had no reason for staying back.

Ayesha is one of the most famous and sought-after chefs of Lahore. Her work is not just food but a work of art. But yeah, this was the first time I had the opportunity of eating it right in her kitchen. Yes, guys, I know you are slightly jealous but I am sorry. You’ve got to live with it.

Here is a quick sneak peak from the lunch cooked very lovingly by Ayesha Ali for us (Meera Asad the famous baker being one of them.) Does this blog seem too much of name dropping? Apologies. Sitting in the rustic wooden kitchen and getting piping hot food coming straight from the oven was a dream I would want to live over and over.

The menu consisted of mutton yakhni pulao, palak gosht, degi chargha, Kashmiri daal gosht, achaari aaloo, dum kebab, aa and last but not the least her very famous crispy chicken lasagne. The desserts included blueberry cheesecake trifle, carrot cake and bread pudding (to die for). One thing that actually caught my attention was her persona reflecting in the food. Have you ever heard of food with a soul? I experienced.

Ayesha did not stop just here. She even packed some food for us to take home. Oh my!

I do not know for how long am I here in Lahore but I do know that this afternoon has shown me new meanings of love and positivity. More power to wonder women like Ayesha Ali!
