Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – the rumours so far, and Samsung’s cheeky leak

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is due to be released shortly. While it may offer some surprises for its user, it is expected to carry on the trend seen between Galaxy S8 and S9, i.e. incremental improvements. It will, of course, have a slightly bigger screen and UI improvements.

The original tweet that invited people to the launch on the 9th of August promised a yellow/gold S-Pen. However, since then, the above image has been leaked by none other than Samsung themselves. The New Zealand website of Samsung ‘accidentally’ released the above image offering pre-orders.

The Galaxy Note 9 – What we see in the leak!

Based on the image above, a few things are obvious:

  • A headphone jack (oh yes!)
  • USB C port
  • The S-Pen slot and the S-Pen
  • Dual Cameras with flash
  • A fingerprint scanner below the camera?

What to Expect

Based on leaks and information, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will have the same glass and metal, dual design like the Note 8, and the S-pen location will be at the bottom right-hand corner. The new phone would be larger because it has a 6.38-inch display. The super AMOLED touchscreen supports 16M colours with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels.

Display

There was a rumour that the Note 9 would be the first Samsung smartphone to have an in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung recently said it would only commercialise the new in-display fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S10, which is due to be launched in the year 2019. But, the spot of the fingerprint sensor on the new phone may be shifted from vertical to horizontal. A leaked photo of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 screen protector shows that it may have a larger iris scanner.

Camera and Battery

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will have a dual camera. A 12 Megapixel primary camera and a secondary 12 Megapixel camera with 2x optical zoom. The two camera features AR emoji and slow-motion videos. The main improvement to the phone should be its battery capacity of 4,000mAh as compared to its predecessor that has 3,000mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also supports video playback of up to 25 hours. Wireless charging and quick charging should also be supported.

Hardware

Concerning the hardware, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9810 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. The phone will also have the following features:

  • LTE/HSPA/GSM networks.
  • A microSD slot for additional storage.
  • 6GB RAM, 41/128/256 GB storage.
  • A USB type-C port for charging.

Power users should be happy to know that Samsung may release an improved model with 8GB RAM and 512 GB memory. The price is expected to be at least £50 higher than Samsung Galaxy Note 8. There are rumours of a 1TB version as well!

Software

As regards the software, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will run on Android P (why not!). New photos suggest the phone may come in copper, blue, silver or violet colours.

Will it be the last note?

There are rumours whether this will be the last note.  While we don’t know for sure, some trends may suggest this. The Galaxy S series is now pretty big, and you might find the Note turn into a S Plus or similar kind of model, which just comes with some extras. What would be really awesome is if the S-Pen becomes an embedded part of the Galaxy S series.

Guess we shall have to wait and see!
